The line for RISK-OFF is 61. The score rose 5 points. It did not cross 45. It did not cross 30. It is 1 point under the CAUTION line. It is 14 points above the RISK-ON line.

Wednesday is the last completed US session. This is a Thursday edition after that close. The US cash market for Thursday has not opened. Asia is still open. A screen after the settlement is not a new settlement. A print after the cash close is not a cash close.

What changed is the clock, and the yield index. Allies were told to prepare for possible strikes after the election. There is still no order. Crude settled higher on that warning. A letter then took the Thursday screen off the settlement. The policy decision printed as a hold. Two officials wanted a hike. The yield index closed above 5 percent. That is why the score rose. The label did not flip. After the close, one large report burned cash and another did not. Those after-hours prints do not agree with each other on the size. None of them is a reason to buy the open.

The book versus yesterday is the same book, with a tighter reason to keep it. Hold the crude sleeve. Do not add it on the warning. Do not sell it on the letter. Do not cover the long bond. Do not buy chips into a future that is down and a session that is still open.

In short

MARKET REGIME, Oct 29 (Thu)

Signal. Neutral. Hold energy. Do not chase. Score 44 of 100.

  1. Iran Crude settled higher. A warning is not an order.
  2. United States Fed held. Yields rose. Do not buy the bond.
  3. United States Alphabet fell after the close. Do not chase.
  4. Dollar dipped. The long end did not ease.
  5. South Korea Asia is still open. Futures are not a close.

Markets bar

Wednesday is the last completed US session. Equity rows are the close story. Yield index rows are that close on this feed. Oil rows name the settlement, then the Thursday screen. A screen is not a settlement. An after-hours print is not a cash close. Asia rows are session prints. Those sessions were still open at this note.

This note does not cite oil or gold volume as a settlement volume.

The continuous Brent feed is the January contract. Its Wednesday bar is near 110.24 dollars. That is not a fall in the December settlement of 115.32 dollars. It is also not a January settlement. This run has no January settlement wire. Do not trade 110.24.

This feed's December crude bar near 101.44 dollars is a last trade, not the settlement. The settlement is 102.78 dollars. Do not trade 101.44.

Top five drivers

Iran The Clock Moved

The Settlement Rose. The Screen Is Not a Close.

SignalDo not trade a warning as an order. Do not trade Wednesday's settlement as Thursday's screen. Do not trade January as December.

US officials have told several Middle East countries to be prepared for possible renewed strikes on Iran after next week's midterm elections, and for the chance that Iran retaliates, including against energy facilities. Two diplomats briefed on the warnings said the president has not made a final decision. The White House declined to comment. A warning is not an order. A preparation brief is not a strike.

The same day, Tehran's foreign minister said Iran continues to give diplomacy a chance. That is a sentence. It is not an opening of the strait. This run's wires have no new strike, and they have no deal.

Wednesday's settlement is the book. December Brent gained 1.44 dollars, or 1.26 percent, to settle at 115.32 dollars. December US crude added 2.88 dollars, or 2.88 percent, to settle at 102.78 dollars. Tuesday's settlements were 113.88 dollars and 99.90 dollars. A second wire printed the same two closes and rounded the percents to 1.3 and 2.9. The prices agree. Do not print a second settlement.

The Thursday screen is later, and it is not a settlement. Brent crude futures were down 0.4 percent at 114.91 dollars on that note, after a report that the vice president sent a letter to Iran's security chief to revive talks. A letter is not a deal. The screen is off the settlement of 115.32. It is not a new one. This note has no timed Thursday price for US crude. Do not invent one from a chart.

The refinery claim is still a claim. The cash-session oil story cited a Houthi attack on Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura refinery as a supply worry. This run has no Saudi confirmation of an outage. A claim that was unconfirmed yesterday is not confirmed because a price rose.

Macro ImpactYesterday the trap was a lower settlement and a higher night screen. Today the signs have flipped, and the clock is worse. Selling the sleeve because a letter printed 114.91 is how you give back a settlement that already rose to 115.32. Adding the sleeve because allies were told to prepare is how you buy a decision that has not been made. The January bar near 110.24 is a third trap. It is a different contract. The strait is not open. The settlement is still the book until the next one.

PositioningHold the crude sleeve. Do not add it. Do not sell it. Do not trade 110.24 as December. Do not trade 114.91 as a close. No airlines and no transports. The energy fund rose 0.35 percent on Wednesday, with the settlement. That close does not include the Thursday screen. Do not buy the fund on the warning, and do not sell it on the letter.

United States The Hold Printed

The Long End Did Not Ease. Do Not Buy the Bond.

SignalThe decision is in. The range stays at 3.75 to 4 percent. The vote was 10 to 2. Governor Lisa Cook and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack wanted a quarter-point hike. The statement said inflation remains elevated, and that the economy is growing at a strong pace. It said more information will help decide the stance that returns inflation to the 2 percent goal. The chair said the economy is not too hot, and that the aim is not to throw sand in the gears. He also said politics played no role.

The long end did not take the patient reading as a bid. The yield index in the score closed at 5.045 percent, up 5.2 basis points from Tuesday's 4.993. The 5-year index closed at 4.871 percent, up 3.1 basis points. The 30-year index closed at 5.361 percent, up 5.6 basis points. The 3-month index fell 4.5 basis points, to 3.995 percent. The very front eased. The long end did not. This note has no separate cash 10-year close. Do not invent one, and do not average the index with a screen.

The December probability is not one number. The cash-session story had an 85 percent chance of a quarter-point hike at the December meeting, up from 78.3 percent on Tuesday, on the CME tool. The decision story, after the chair spoke, had about an 80 percent chance of a hike at the 8 Dec meeting, with another increase likely by March. The Thursday note still had markets 80 percent priced for a December rise. Do not average 85 and 80. The base did not collapse. Tuesday was 78.3 percent. December is still the hike meeting.

The curve note is separate, and it is a screen. The Thursday note said the 2-year yield fell 6 basis points overnight and was last at 4.6933 percent. That is the front of the curve easing after a patient chair. It is not a bid for the long bond. Do not average 4.6933 with the 5-year index of 4.871.

Thursday's prices and growth prints are still ahead. Forecasts on the Thursday note are centred on a 0.3 percent monthly rise in the core personal consumption gauge, from 0.2 percent the month before. That is a forecast. It is not a print. The chair said he expects Thursday's growth report to show strong investment and spending. An expectation is not a number to trade.

Macro ImpactThe hold itself was priced. The risk that was in the statement is now in the tape. Two officials wanted a hike. The yield index closed above 5 percent. December is still a hike meeting, whether the read is 80 percent or 85 percent. A patient chair and a steeper curve are not a cover. Adding to the short after a 5.2 basis point jump, into a prices print that has not happened, is a chase. The long bond fund fell 0.78 percent. That is the close. It is not a new entry.

PositioningStay underweight long duration. Do not cover. Do not add to the short into Thursday's prints. Hold cash and short bills over the long end. The front eased. The long end did not. Cash is still paid to wait.

United States The Cash Close Rose

The After-Hours Prints Do Not Agree. Do Not Buy the Open.

SignalThe bounce is in the cash close. The split is after it. Do not trade one as the other.

The S&P 500 gained 21.37 points, or 0.28 percent, to 7,743.97. The Nasdaq Composite gained 72.04 points, or 0.27 percent, to 26,549.85. The Dow rose 97.53 points, or 0.19 percent, to 52,475.10. The chip index rose 1.8 percent, a fourth straight up day. The semiconductor fund on this feed rose 1.74 percent, to 567.67. Those are cash closes. Nvidia on this feed fell 1.17 percent, to 215.38. A fund up and a large chip name down is not a clearance.

Breadth was not a blowout. On the Nasdaq, 75 names made a new high and 198 made a new low. Advancers led. New lows still led new highs. Volume was 16.67 billion shares, against a 17.10 billion average for the last 20 full sessions. A quieter tape with more new lows than new highs is not a trend day.

The after-hours tape is the new risk, and the wires do not agree on the size. Alphabet missed on revenue and earnings. Revenue was 127.6 billion dollars, against a 128.2 billion dollar estimate. Adjusted earnings were 2.67 dollars a share, against 3.02. Free cash flow was negative 9.07 billion dollars. This year's spending guide stays at 195 to 205 billion dollars, and the company said 2027 spending will rise significantly from that. Cloud revenue more than doubled. The stock reaction is not one print. The company wire said the shares fell 10 percent after hours. The cash-session story said they dropped more than 7 percent in extended trading. An early print at 4:25 p.m. New York time was more than 8 percent. The Thursday note said 10 percent. Do not average those. None of them is the cash close. On this feed, the cash close rose 1.34 percent, to 324.89.

Microsoft is the other side, and its after-hours prints also disagree. Free cash flow was 18.6 billion dollars, against an estimate of 8.54 billion. Cloud revenue grew 48 percent. Spending was 45.2 billion dollars, below the company's own 50 billion dollar projection for the quarter, and the company said the shortfall was delayed deliveries, not a cut in the plan. The company wire said the shares rose more than 3 percent after hours. The cash-session story said they gained over 4 percent in extended trading. The Thursday note said 3 percent. Do not average those. The cash close on this feed was down 0.06 percent, to 531.01. A flat cash close is not the after-hours print.

Nasdaq futures were down 1 percent on the Thursday note. A future is not a close, and it is not a confirmation of either after-hours print.

Macro ImpactYesterday's rule was not to buy the open because chips had already risen. The cash open then rose, and the close was small. That does not retire the rule. It moves the rule to this open. Buying the chip fund because it rose 1.74 percent yesterday is how a cash bounce becomes the position you have to defend after a 10 percent after-hours miss in one name and a future that is already down. The question in the prints was whether the spending turns into cash. One name showed cash. One name burned it. A beat on cloud revenue does not answer the open.

PositioningDo not buy the semiconductor fund. Do not short it either. A fourth up day, into a split after-hours tape and two more large reports tonight, is not an entry and it is not a fade. Cash still beats a chase into an open that has not printed.

The Score Rose to 44

The Label Did Not Flip. Do Not Add Because Flow Eased.

SignalWednesday's close did not flip the regime. A lower volatility index is not a new bond bid.

The score is 44. Yesterday's score was 39. Fiscal pressure is 71, up 16 points. Central bank pressure is 61, up 13 points. Flow pressure is 25, down 12 points. Narrative stress is 7, up 3 points. The volatility index in the score is Wednesday's 16.91. The yield index in the score is Wednesday's 5.045 percent. The Thursday screen is not in the score. Asia is not in the score. The after-hours prints are not in the score.

The dollar index on this feed closed at 102.14, down 0.18 percent from Tuesday's 102.32. The Thursday note rounded that overnight dip to 0.2 percent. A softer dollar, with the yield index above 5 percent, is not an all clear. It is a split. The long end paid the warning and the hold. The dollar did not.

The high yield fund was flat. The investment grade fund fell 0.22 percent, with the yield rise. Credit did not crack. That is less stress in the flow reading. It is not a reason to add risk one point under the CAUTION line.

Macro ImpactA score that rises 5 points and stops 1 point short of CAUTION is a hold, not a signal. Flow pressure fell because the volatility index fell under 17. That is less equity stress. Fiscal pressure jumped because the yield index broke above 5 percent. The score rose on the bond, not on a stock crack. Treating 44 as a buy because 25 looks calm is how you add risk into a strike clock that moved and a prices print that has not happened.

PositioningDo not add risk because the label is still NEUTRAL. Do not cover duration because the volatility index is 16.91. The sleeve you had yesterday is the sleeve you should still have. The reason to keep it got tighter, not looser.

Key SourcesReuters, 29 Oct, https://www.reuters.com/world/china/global-markets-global-markets-2026-10-29/ ; Reuters, 28 Oct, https://www.reuters.com/business/fed-likely-go-into-wait-and-see-mode-rates-2026-10-28/

South Korea Asia Gave the Bounce Back

The Session Is Not a Close. Do Not Chase It.

SignalThe chip bounce was not a finished regional close, and gold does not have a new futures settlement in this note.

Asian shares gave up earlier gains on Thursday. Samsung said operating profit rose nearly ninefold to a record, on chip demand. The stock still slid more than 4 percent in that note, and the Korea index was down 2.6 percent after a near 7 percent surge a day earlier. The regional index outside Japan was down 0.7 percent. The Nikkei was up 0.3 percent, having given back earlier gains. Mainland China's blue chips were down 0.9 percent. Hong Kong was up 0.2 percent. Those are session prints. Korea and Tokyo were still open at this note. Do not trade them as closes.

Nasdaq futures were down 1 percent on the same note, pulled by the Alphabet miss. A future is not a US close.

Spot gold is not in this note as a settlement. The gold fund closed Wednesday up 0.33 percent, at 373.51. This run has no Wednesday futures settlement. Do not invent one from a thin bar. Do not average the fund with a screen this note does not have.

China has no new policy figure in this run. A record profit with the stock down, in a session that is still open, is not a stimulus bid.

Macro ImpactKorea down in the morning, after a record chip profit, is the same shape as the US after-hours split. The spending is still there. The cash is the question. Chasing the emerging sleeve because one name reported a ninefold profit is the same error as buying the US open. Gold's fund gain, with no futures settlement, does not turn gold into the war hedge. The crude sleeve is still the hedge that settled higher. It is held, not added.

PositioningStay underweight China cyclicals. Do not buy the Korea print. Do not buy the gold fund bounce into a prices print and an open that has not happened. A zero weight in gold is fine. If you want the war hedge, it is the crude sleeve, and that sleeve is not a new trade today.

Scorecard

44 of 100 sits in NEUTRAL. Caution starts at 45, risk-off at 61, risk-on below 30.

Variable Score Interpretation
Fiscal Impulse71Up 16 points from 55. The yield index closed at 5.045 percent, up 5.2 basis points. The level above 5 percent is the constraint. The day made it tighter. Still not a bond bid
CB Elasticity61Up 13 points from 48. The hold is done. The 5-year index rose 3.1 basis points, so the belly did not ease. December is still a hike meeting. Do not read 61 as a cut
Flow Pressure25Down 12 points from 37. The volatility index closed at 16.91, down 0.61 points, under 17. The high yield fund was flat. Less stress. Not an all clear. The after-hours miss is not in this score
Narrative Coherence7Up 3 points from 4. Wednesday's cash close was mostly one story. Stocks rose, the volatility index fell, oil settled higher, the yield index rose. The after-hours split broke that story, and the score has not taken the split. Low is not a buy signal
Composite44NEUTRAL

The label did not flip. The score is 44. Yesterday it was 39. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. A higher score means more stress. This score rose 5 points. It did not cross 45. It did not cross 30. It is 1 point from CAUTION and 14 points from RISK-ON, with a strike warning that is not an order, a prices print today, and two large reports tonight. A 44 going into that calendar is a hold, not a signal.

Data through the 28 Oct 2026 US close. This is a Thursday edition after that close. The US cash market for Thursday has not opened. Asia was still open at this note. A later screen is not a new settlement.
