Nasdaq fell 2.6 percent. Do not buy the dip.
Brent closed higher. Do not chase oil.
Yields fell hard. Do not cover bonds.
Score is 39. Still neutral. Not a flip.
A December hike is not fully priced. Not a flip. Score 39 of 100. The label is NEUTRAL. Yesterday the score was 43. The label was already NEUTRAL. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. The score fell 4 points. It did not cross 45. It did not fall through 30.
Thursday is the last completed US session. The Nasdaq fell. Brent closed higher. The yield index fell back under 5 percent. Asia is open. A Friday screen is not a new close.
Do not buy the Nasdaq dip. Do not add the crude sleeve because the settlement rose. Do not sell it because a Friday screen is lower, or because the hits are disputed. Do not cover the long bond because yields fell. Do not add to the duration short because a December hike is still the larger bet.
Thursday is the last completed US session. Oil rows name the source. A Friday screen is not a settlement. The continuous crude feed is not the settlement. Do not average them.

| Cash 10-year (Fri screen) | 4.9591% | An Asia note said the yield was steadying at 4.9591 percent. A screen. Not a close. Do not average it with 4.972 or 4.953 |

| Brent (Fri screen, 0030 GMT) | 112.96 dollars | Down 21 cents, or 0.2 percent. Not a settlement. Adding the 21 cents back lands on 113.17. That lines up with the close. Do not trade the screen |

| Gold (Fri screen) | 4,021.99 dollars | An Asia note said gold was flat at that price after a drop of nearly 3 percent overnight. A screen. Not a settlement. This feed's Thursday last print was 4,034.00. Do not average them |
This note does not cite oil volume. The stock close story said 18.79 billion shares changed hands, against a 17.19 billion average for the last 20 sessions. That is the close story's figure. It is not an oil volume claim.
The Nasdaq Fell 2.60 Percent. Do Not Buy the Dip.Signal. Thursday's cash close is a technology break. It is not a broad crash, and it is not an entry.
The close story said the Nasdaq posted its biggest one day percentage drop since 5 Jun. The S&P 500 fell 1.21 percent, to 7,663.43. The Nasdaq fell 2.60 percent, to 26,008.86. The Dow rose 0.02 percent, to 52,867.98. This feed matches those three closes. Do not round them into a different tape.
The same story said the chip index plunged 6.7 percent, its biggest daily drop since 23 Jun. With Thursday's decline, that index is off more than 26 percent from its record close on 22 Jun, and still up 51.5 percent this year. The S&P 500 is up 11.9 percent over the same stretch. A one day drop is not a repair of that year, and it is not a new entry.
The semiconductor fund fell 6.0 percent on this feed, to 523.35 from Wednesday's 556.70. Do not average 6.0 and 6.7. Nvidia fell 4.4 percent yesterday, to 212.21 from Wednesday's 221.97, on this feed. The close story did not print that name. A one day drop is not a new entry.
Meta slid 7.0 percent in the close story. Results came in ahead of the forecast. The stock still fell. The story said the firm posted its first cash outflow in more than a decade, tied to spending on the new technology, and plans to issue non voting shares in a two for one split. A later Asia note said the shares lost nearly 8 percent. Do not average 7.0 and nearly 8. Use the close story for the cash session.
Tesla fell 3.1 percent in the close story, after it cut its 2026 spending plans. Intel, AMD, Sandisk, and Marvell each fell more than 8 percent in that same story. Those are cash closes. They are not a reason to buy the open.
The drop was not the whole market. On the New York exchange, advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 1.01 to 1. There were 173 new highs and 366 new lows. On the Nasdaq, 2,022 stocks rose and 2,766 fell. Decliners led by 1.37 to 1. The close story said the only part of the market really suffering was technology. Do not sell the whole book because the Nasdaq fell 2.60 percent.
Procter and Gamble finished 5.6 percent higher. Lockheed Martin finished 7.0 percent higher after it raised its annual forecast. Those are earnings prints. They are not a reason to buy the chip dip, and the Lockheed print is not a strike order.
Asia is open. A Friday note said the Nikkei was down 1.3 percent and Korean shares were down 1.7 percent. A regional index outside Japan was down 0.3 percent. Taiwan was closed for a typhoon. The Tokyo session ends at 08:00 CEST. The Korean session ends at 08:30 CEST. Do not call any of those a close. Do not average them with Thursday's US cash drop.
Macro Impact. A 2.60 percent drop in the Nasdaq, with the chip index down 6.7 percent in the close story, is why you do not buy the dip. It is not why you sell the whole book. Advancers still led in New York. The error is to buy the semiconductor fund because it fell 6.0 percent on this feed. The other error is to treat an open Asia dip as a second US close.
Positioning. Do not buy the semiconductor fund. Do not buy the US chip open because Thursday fell. Do not add high beta tech into next week's reports. A starter in utilities is still cleaner than a chip chase. The utilities fund rose 2.1 percent, to 42.87. That is not a reason to add. Keep financials small. The fund rose 1.1 percent, to 56.65. That is not a new entry.

Brent Closed Higher. Do Not Chase It. Do Not Sell It.Signal. Yesterday's screen is now a close. The Friday screen is a different clock. The strait is not open.
A close story said Brent gained 4 percent, to close at 113.17 dollars, the highest close since 4 May. The same story said US crude gained 2.4 percent, to settle at 99.47 dollars. The story did not name the month. Wednesday's Brent settlement was 108.82 dollars. Wednesday's active crude settlement was 97.15 dollars. Adding 4 percent to 108.82 lands on 113.17. That lines up. Do not trade 99.47 as expired November. November expired Tuesday. Its settlement was 101.79 dollars.
A Friday wire at 0030 GMT had Brent down 21 cents, or 0.2 percent, at 112.96 dollars, and US crude down 27 cents, or 0.3 percent, at 98.12 dollars. Adding the 21 cents back lands on 113.17. That lines up with the Brent close. Adding the 27 cents back lands on 98.39. That does not line up with the 99.47 settlement. Do not average 99.47 and 98.12. Do not trade 98.39 as a close. Do not trade 112.96 as a new settlement.
An Asia note had a Friday peak of 114 dollars for Brent. That is a third clock. Do not average 113.17, 112.96, and 114.
This feed's Thursday Brent bar printed 113.98. Its Thursday crude bar printed 100.30. The Wednesday bars for both were missing on this pull. Neither Thursday print is the settlement. Do not average 113.98 with 113.17. Do not average 100.30 with 99.47 or with 98.12.
The same close story said Saudi Aramco told staff to evacuate its headquarters in Dhahran and work remotely. A spokesman said the order to leave covers Saudi Arabia, and dismissed reports of a wider Gulf withdrawal. An order for one country is not an order for the region. An evacuation of a headquarters is not a settlement, and it is not an opening of the strait.
Iran said seven tankers were damaged in the strait. The claim is not independently confirmed. A president's post called the hits fake, and said more oil is moving than before the conflict. A military spokesman, speaking to Al Jazeera, called the mine claims incorrect, said the lanes were cleared, and said 95 percent of vessels were getting through. Lloyd's said 28 attacks on ships in October, the highest since the war began, and said operators still willing to sail were not retreating. Those statements do not agree. A disputed toll is not a cargo count I am calling finished. It is not a reason to add, and it is not a reason to sell.
A New York Times report, cited in the oil close story, said US and Israeli militaries had drawn up plans for renewed strikes after the midterms. Those elections are 3 Nov (Tue). The president said something would happen fairly soon, and that most people think it is after the election. A report of plans is not an order. A comment about timing is not a close.
An export note in an earlier Thursday wire said Middle East crude exports were around 17 million barrels a day last week, against a pre war average of about 18 million, citing Morgan Stanley and Kpler. That is an estimate in a wire. It is not Thursday's settlement. A pipeline capacity comment in a separate wire, of a rise from 2 million to 7 million barrels a day, is a capacity claim. It is not a flow I measured, and it is not a settlement.
Macro Impact. A 4 percent rise in the Brent close, to 113.17 dollars, does not open the strait and does not clear it. A 2.4 percent rise in the active crude settlement, to 99.47 dollars, does not either. Selling the sleeve because the Friday screen is at 98.12 dollars, or because the hits are disputed, is the trap. Adding the sleeve because the close is 113.17 dollars, or because a note printed 114, is the other trap.
The energy sector fund fell 0.9 percent on Thursday, to 67.57. The oil fund rose 1.7 percent, to 162.51. Those are not the same sleeve. A lower equity fund is not a reason to sell the crude sleeve. A higher oil fund is not a new entry.
Positioning. Hold the core crude sleeve. Do not add it. Do not sell it. Do not trade 113.98 as the close. Do not trade 100.30 as the settlement. Do not trade 112.96 or 98.12 as a close. Do not trade a Friday screen as Thursday's book.

The Yield Index Fell. Do Not Cover Bonds.Signal. No new US inflation print arrived. The yield index fell. A cash yield story fell by a different amount. A Friday screen is in between. Those are three clocks. A hold next week is still the economist base. A cut is not.
The 10 year yield index closed at 4.953 percent, down 19.3 basis points from Wednesday's 5.146. The 5 year yield index closed at 4.768 percent, down 20.4 basis points from Wednesday's 4.972. The 30 year yield index closed at 5.287 percent, down 15.2 basis points from Wednesday's 5.439. The bill index closed at 4.022 percent, down 4.1 basis points from Wednesday's 4.063. The long bond fund rose 1.9 percent, to 81.74. That rise lines up with a lower yield index. It is not the cash story. Do not force them into one number.
A cash story said the 10 year yield slid more than 17 basis points, to 4.972 percent, the first time under 5 percent since 23 Sep, and the biggest one day decline since 10 Mar 2023. The same story said the 2 year yield tumbled more than 16 basis points, to 4.659 percent, and the 30 year yield was more than 14 basis points lower, at 5.296 percent. That is not this index. Do not average 4.972 and 4.953. Do not average 5.296 and 5.287.
An Asia note said the 10 year yield slid more than 19 basis points, the biggest drop since March 2023, and was steadying at 4.9591 percent on Friday. It said the 2 year yield slumped nearly 19 basis points overnight and was last flat at 4.6566 percent. That is a screen. Do not average 4.9591 with 4.972 or with 4.953. Do not average "more than 17" and "more than 19".
The same note said a December rate rise is no longer fully priced, with the implied probability at 85 percent. It also said almost a full quarter point of tightening for next year had been stripped out. Those are bets in a Friday note. They are not a decision. They are not a cut. The Thursday close story said markets were pricing another 25 basis point rise before year end. Do not average "priced" and "85 percent". Use the Friday note for the latest bet, and do not trade it as a close.
A cash story quote said the bond bid was a flight to safety, tied to the technology drop and to higher oil. Another quote in that story said if energy prices stay high, the central bank could have to do more, which would not help the bond market. A haven day is not an easing cycle. A higher oil close is why you do not cover.
The investment grade credit fund rose 1.0 percent, to 104.28. The high yield fund rose 0.2 percent, to 77.10. Credit did not break. That is not a reason to buy the long bond.
Macro Impact. A 19.3 basis point drop in the yield index, to 4.953 percent, is why you do not add to the duration short. It is not why you cover it. The error is to buy the long bond because the cash story fell under 5 percent, or because a Friday screen is at 4.9591 percent. The other error is to add to the short because a December hike is still the larger bet, at 85 percent in the Asia note. The clocks do not agree on the size of the drop. That is why you do neither.
Positioning. Stay underweight long duration. Do not cover it. Do not add to the short. Hold cash and short bills over the long end. The long bond fund rose 1.9 percent on Thursday. That is not a buy, and it is not a reason to add to the short.
Key Sources. CNBC, 22 Oct, https://www.cnbc.com/2026/10/22/treasurys-bonds-ai-yields.html ; Reuters, 23 Oct, https://www.reuters.com/world/china/global-markets-global-markets-2026-10-23/ ; Reuters, 22 Oct, https://www.reuters.com/business/nasdaq-futures-drop-over-1-ai-worries-resurface-oil-climbs-2026-10-22/
The Score Fell to 39. That Is Not a Buy.Signal. The label did not move. The book should not.
The score is 39. Yesterday it was 43. Fiscal pressure is 55, down from 74. Central bank pressure is 45, down from 58. Flow pressure is 46, up from 24. Narrative stress is 0, the same as yesterday. VIX closed at 19.03, up 2.35 points from Wednesday's 16.68. The yield index closed at 4.953 percent, down 19.3 basis points from Wednesday's 5.146. The 5 year yield index closed at 4.768 percent, down 20.4 basis points from Wednesday's 4.972.
The fiscal leg fell because the yield index fell. The fear gauge rose. The yield leg fell more than the fear gauge rose. That is why the score is 39 and not 43. It is also why 39 is not a calmer book than 43 in the equity sleeve. Flow pressure jumped. The Nasdaq fell. The label did not.
The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. A score of 39 is neutral. It is 6 points under the line that would put the CAUTION label back on. It is 9 points above the line for a risk on label. It is 22 points short of a risk off label.
Asia is open. This pull is not a close. A Friday note is not a new score. Do not rewrite 39 because Korean shares are lower in an open session.
Macro Impact. A score that falls from 43 to 39 means the book moved away from the CAUTION line and stayed neutral. The error is to buy Thursday's Nasdaq drop because the label is still neutral. The other error is to sell the crude sleeve, or to cover the long bond, because 39 feels calmer than 43. It is not a risk on label. An open Asia dip does not rewrite a score that uses Thursday's US close.
Positioning. Trade 39 as a hold, not as a dip to buy, and not as a return to CAUTION. Hold cash. Hold the crude sleeve. Stay underweight duration. Do not add high beta tech. Do not add defense. A Korea screen is not a US repair, and it is not a US break.
Key Sources. Thursday closes on the same feed as the score. Reuters, 22 Oct, https://www.reuters.com/business/nasdaq-futures-drop-over-1-ai-worries-resurface-oil-climbs-2026-10-22/
A Hold Next Week Is the Base. A Cut Is Not.Signal. Claims are still low. The meeting is still next week. A Friday note dented the December bet. It did not replace it with a cut.
Initial claims fell 6,000, to 194,000, for the week ended 17 Oct. That was the sixth week at or below 200,000. Continuing claims rose 25,000, to 1.728 million, for the week ended 10 Oct. September payrolls rose by 29,000. The jobless rate was 4.2 percent in September. Those prints are already out. Do not treat them as a new release. The claims story said the labor market is still in a low hire, low fire state, and that the oil shock has not yet shown up as a wave of layoffs.
The same story said the policy rate window is 3.75 to 4 percent, after a September rise of 25 basis points. It said economists expect a hold next week and another rise in December. One economist in that story said the central bank has a free hand to raise rates next week. That is one view. It is not the economist base in the same story. Do not average them.
The Thursday close story said markets were pricing another 25 basis point rise before year end. The Friday Asia note said a December rise is no longer fully priced, at 85 percent. That is a dent in the bet. It is not a cut, and it is not a decision.
The calendar marks the US meeting on 27 to 28 Oct. There are no projections at that meeting. Decision day is 28 Oct (Wed). The following meeting, with projections, is 8 to 9 Dec. A hike in October is not the economist base in the claims story. A cut is not the base in any of these notes.
The consumption price gauge is not out. Personal income and outlays for September, and the first read on third quarter output, are both 29 Oct (Thu) at 08:30 ET. That is the morning after the decision. It is not a print before the meeting. September consumer prices already printed. Do not treat them as a new release.
A Friday note said Japan's core inflation exceeded the 2 percent target in September, for the first time in nine months. That note did not print the rate. I am not inventing one. It is not a US close.
The gold fund closed at 369.00, down 2.6 percent. A haven day that does not lift the gold fund is not a gold entry. A Friday note had gold flat at 4,021.99 dollars an ounce after a drop of nearly 3 percent overnight. This feed's Thursday last print was 4,034.00. I am not calling either a settlement. Do not average them.
France's 10 year yield climbed 6 basis points overnight, to 5.0601 percent, in the Asia note, which called that the highest since 2002. It is not a US close.
Macro Impact. A claims print of 194,000, with a hold as the economist base for next week, keeps a cut off the table. A December bet at 85 percent in a Friday note is not a cover. The error is to buy the long bond because the hike bet was dented. The other error is to price an October hike because one economist said the central bank has a free hand. The meeting has not happened.
Positioning. Stay underweight long duration. Do not cover it into Wednesday. Do not add to the short into Wednesday. Hold cash. Do not trade 85 percent as a decision. Do not trade a Friday screen as the book.

| Power / utilities (XLU) | +1% | Hold the starter. It is cleaner than a chip chase. The fund rose 2.1 percent on Thursday, to 42.87. That is not a reason to add |
| Cash / short bills | High | The yield index closed at 4.953 percent. The score is 39. A drop inside neutral is not a bond buy |
| Underweight | ||
| Long duration (TLT, IEF) | −5% | The yield index fell 19.3 basis points. A cash story fell by a different amount. A Friday screen is in between. Do not average them. A priced hold next week is not a cover. A December hike at 85 percent is not a cut. Do not add to the short |
| Semis / high beta tech (SMH) | −2% | The chip index fell 6.7 percent in the close story. The fund fell 6.0 percent. Do not buy the dip. Do not sell the whole book because New York advancers still led |
| Airlines / transport (DAL, AAL) | −2% | No all clear. The strait is not open. A higher Brent close is not a reason to add airlines |
| China cyclicals (FXI, EEM) | −2% | No new decision. The China fund fell 1.5 percent. Do not chase the dip |
| Defense (ITA, LMT) | 0% | Lockheed rose 7.0 percent after a forecast raise. That is an earnings print. A report of plans after 3 Nov is not an order. The fund fell 0.6 percent, to 204.48. Do not add defense |
| Gold (GLD) | 0% | The fund fell 2.6 percent. No new settlement. Not a new entry |
| Financials (XLF) | 0% | The fund rose 1.1 percent, to 56.65. Keep it small. Do not add |
Cash stays high. A 39 score says the CAUTION label is still off and the dip bid is still off. It does not say buy duration, sell energy, or buy chips. Trade 39 as a 4.953 percent yield index, a Brent close of 113.17 dollars, an active crude settlement of 99.47 dollars, a strait that is not open, and a Nasdaq that fell 2.60 percent. The higher oil close is a reason to hold the sleeve. It is not a reason to add it. The yield drop is a reason not to add to the duration short. It is not a reason to cover it.
| Date | Event | Importance |
|---|---|---|
| 23 Oct (Fri) | Asia is open. A Friday oil screen is not a settlement. The US cash session has not opened | High |
| 26 Oct (Mon) | US cash reopens. No new data print in this note | Low |
| 27 to 28 Oct (Tue to Wed) | US policy meeting. No projections. Decision day is 28 Oct (Wed). Economists in the claims story expect a hold. A hike is not the base case. A cut is not the base case | High |
| 28 Oct (Wed) | US policy decision. Alphabet and Microsoft stamps on this feed, 16:00 ET | High |
| 29 Oct (Thu) | Personal income and outlays for September, and the first read on third quarter output, both 08:30 ET. The morning after the decision. Amazon stamp on this feed, 16:00 ET | High |
| 30 Oct (Fri) | Exxon and Chevron stamps on this feed, 08:00 ET | High |
| 2 Nov (Mon) | Apple stamp on this feed, 15:00 ET | Medium |
| 3 Nov (Tue) | US midterms. A report of attack plans after this date is not an order. The edge of this window | Medium |
| 17 Nov (Tue) | Next Nvidia date on this feed, 15:00 ET. Outside this window. The prior quarter has already been reported. Do not treat 17 Nov as this week | Medium |
| 8 to 9 Dec (Tue to Wed) | Following US policy meeting, with projections. Outside this window. A Friday note has a December rise at 85 percent. A cut is not the base case in this note | High |
Weekdays above match the calendar. Tesla, Meta, and Procter and Gamble have already reported. Do not treat them as still ahead. September consumer prices already printed. Do not treat them as a new release. September payrolls already printed. Do not treat them as a new release.
| Variable | Score | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Fiscal Impulse | 55 | 10Y at 4.95% — moderately restrictive |
| CB Elasticity | 45 | 5Y at 4.68% — below neutral, Fed constrained by inflation above target |
| Flow Pressure | 46 | VIX 19.0 — lowest reading in weeks, low fear despite Iran/oil |
| Narrative Coherence | 0 | SPY +0.1%/5d | QQQ-SPY breadth -16 |
| Composite | 39 | NEUTRAL |
Regime thresholds: <30 RISK-ON | 30-44 NEUTRAL | 45-60 CAUTION | ≥61 RISK-OFF
The scorecard registers NEUTRAL — VIX at 19.03, 10Y at 4.95%. Stress is moderate. A VIX spike or a 10Y jump would push toward CAUTION.
The label did not flip. The score is 39. Yesterday it was 43. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. A higher score means more stress. The score fell because the yield index fell more than the fear gauge rose. It did not cross 45. It did not cross 30. It did not move to a crash. It did not return to CAUTION.
Data through the 22 Oct 2026 US close. This is a Friday edition after that close. Asia is open. A Friday screen is not a settlement. Do not trade an open session as a close.
