Some staff ordered out of Saudi. Not a close.
The score rose to 43. Still neutral. Not a buy.
Settlement little changed. Do not trade a screen.
The Nasdaq rose. Do not chase chips.
The yield index rose. Do not buy bonds. Not a flip. Score 43 of 100. The label is NEUTRAL. Yesterday the score was 38. The label was already NEUTRAL. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. The score rose 5 points. It did not cross 45. It did not fall through 30.
The United States ordered some diplomats and family members to leave Saudi Arabia. That is a wire. It is not an opening of the strait. Oil rose on a Thursday screen. That screen is not a settlement. Wednesday's settlement barely moved.
Do not add the crude sleeve because staff were ordered out. Do not sell it because the settlement was flat. Do not buy the Nasdaq rise. Do not buy the long bond because a cash yield screen is lower. Do not add to the duration short because the yield index rose.
Wednesday is the last completed US session. Oil rows name the source. A Thursday screen is not a settlement. The continuous crude feed is not the settlement, and it is not the 00:34 GMT screen. Do not average them.

| Russell 2000 (Wed close, this feed) | 2,781.02 | Up 0.27 percent vs Tuesday's 2,773.42. The close story did not print this index. Volume on this bar is blank. Do not cite it |
| VIX (Wed close) | 16.68 | Down 0.63 points vs Tuesday's 17.31. The close is under 20. This is the fear gauge in the score |
| US 10-year yield index (Wed close) | 5.146% | Up 2.9 basis points vs Tuesday's 5.117. This is the index in the score. Not the cash yield |
| 5-year yield index (Wed close) | 4.972% | Up 3.7 basis points vs Tuesday's 4.935. Not the cash yield |
| Cash 10-year (Wed close story) | 5.111% | The close story said the cash yield shed 0.6 basis point, to 5.111 percent. Not this index. Do not average 5.111 and 5.146 |
| Cash 10-year (Thu screen) | 5.1065% | An Asia note said the yield was down 4.2 basis points, at 5.1065 percent. A screen. Not a close. Do not average it with 5.146 or 5.111 |
| Brent (Wed settlement) | 108.82 dollars | Up 3 cents, or 0.03 percent. Close story. Adding the 3 cents back lands on 108.79. That is the prior settlement implied by the story |
| WTI (Wed settlement) | 97.15 dollars | Down 67 cents, or 0.7 percent. Close story. The story did not name the month. Adding 67 cents back lands on 97.82. That lines up with the active contract after Tuesday's expiry. Not November |
| November WTI | Expired Tuesday | Tuesday's settlement was 101.79 dollars. Do not trade 97.15 as a new November close |
| Brent (Thu screen, 00:34 GMT) | 110.11 dollars | Up 1.29 dollars, or 1.2 percent, from the settlement. Not a settlement |
| WTI (Thu screen, 00:34 GMT) | 98.12 dollars | Up 97 cents, or 1 percent, from the 97.15 settlement. Not a settlement. Not November |
| Brent (later Asia note) | 110.03 dollars | The note called that 1.1 percent higher. A different clock from 110.11. Do not average 110.11, 110.03, and the continuous print |
| Continuous Brent (this feed, Wed bar) | 110.40 dollars | Not the settlement of 108.82. Not the 00:34 GMT screen of 110.11. Not the later note of 110.03 |
| Continuous crude (this feed, Wed bar) | 98.32 dollars | Not the settlement of 97.15. Not the 00:34 GMT screen of 98.12. Not November |
| Gold fund (Wed close) | 378.95 | Up 0.34 percent vs Tuesday's 377.65. Not a futures settlement |
| Dollar index (Wed close) | 101.65 | The close story said down 0.14 percent, to 101.65. This feed's Wednesday bar is 101.65. Its Tuesday bar is 101.73. A Thursday note printed 102.2. That does not match this close. Do not use it. Do not average 101.65 and 102.2 |
| S&P futures (Thu screen) | 7,765.8 | An Asia note said e-minis were down 0.4 percent. A screen. Not a cash close |
This note does not cite oil volume. The stock close story said 16.11 billion shares changed hands, against a 17.10 billion average for the last 20 sessions. That is the close story's figure. It is not an oil volume claim.
Some Staff Were Ordered Out of Saudi Arabia. That Is Not a Close.Signal. The overnight wire is an order to leave. It is not a settlement, and it is not an opening of the strait.
A Thursday oil wire said more attacks by the Houthis in Saudi Arabia prompted the United States to order some diplomats and family members to leave its missions in the Kingdom. The same wire said the State Department plans to withdraw family members from a number of other US missions in the region. A plan for other posts is not the same order. An order to leave is not a completed evacuation I am calling finished, and it is not a new oil close.
The same wire said Yemen's Houthis struck several targets on Wednesday. At least one person was killed and eight more wounded at a civilian airport in Dammam. Two people were killed in a drone attack on a Saudi oil field. Those are casualty figures in the wire. They are not a settlement.
Explosions were heard in Sirik in southern Iran, Iranian media reported on Wednesday. The wire said the nature and origin were unknown. Unknown is not a strike I am naming.
Iran's foreign minister told the Financial Times that Iran was fully prepared to defend itself. The president told state media the United States could not expect dialogue while blockading and threatening Iran. No dialogue is not a deal, and it is not a new close.
The strait is not open. A trader note in the Wednesday settlement story said attacks looked to be continuing, with at least two more ships struck overnight. That is a note. It is not an exchange tally. Kpler's figure of at least 18 vessel attacks over two weeks is the same two week note as before. It is not a new daily toll. The Guards' statement that three tankers hit mines is dated 20 Oct. It is not a Thursday settlement.
An Asia note, citing the New York Times, said US and Israeli militaries had developed specific plans for renewed attacks on Iran after the US midterm elections. Those elections are 3 Nov (Tue). A report of plans after that date is not an order, and it is not a reason to add crude before the open.
The offset is not a cargo either. The Kremlin said Russia's president agreed to resume US mediated talks with Ukraine as soon as next month, after hosting a US envoy in St Petersburg on Wednesday. Ukraine's president said he supported the talks. A meeting is not an opening of the strait. A date next month is not barrels.
Macro Impact. An order to leave Saudi Arabia can lift the next settlement. It did not replace Wednesday's close. The error is to add the crude sleeve because diplomats were ordered out, or because a screen is higher. The other error is to sell the sleeve because Wednesday settled little changed, or because talks were hosted in St Petersburg. Neither print opens the strait. Neither print is a new US cash close.
Positioning. Hold the core crude sleeve. Do not add it. Do not sell it. Do not trade a Thursday screen as a close. Do not add defense because staff were ordered out. Do not add airlines because talks were hosted. Cash is still better than a chase into an open Asia session.

The Score Rose to 43. That Is Not a Buy.Signal. The label did not move. The book should not.
The score is 43. Yesterday it was 38. Fiscal pressure is 74, up from 61. Central bank pressure is 58, up from 50. Flow pressure is 24, down from 28. Narrative stress is 0, down from 1. VIX closed at 16.68, down 0.63 points from Tuesday's 17.31. The yield index closed at 5.146 percent, up 2.9 basis points from Tuesday's 5.117. The 5 year yield index closed at 4.972 percent, up 3.7 basis points from Tuesday's 4.935.
The fiscal leg jumped because the yield index rose. The fear gauge fell. The cash tape rose. The yield leg rose more than the fear gauge fell. That is why the score is 43 and not 38. It is also why 43 is not a calmer book than 38 in the bond sleeve.
The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. A score of 43 is neutral. It is 2 points under the line that would put the CAUTION label back on. It is 13 points above the line for a risk on label. It is 18 points short of a risk off label.
Asia is open. This pull is not a close. An Asia note said the Nikkei gave up earlier gains and was 0.4 percent lower. Korean shares were down more than 1 percent. A regional index outside Japan was down 0.2 percent. The Tokyo session ends at 08:00 CEST. The Korean session ends at 08:30 CEST. Do not call any of those a close. Do not average them with Wednesday's US cash rise.
The same note said S&P futures were down 0.4 percent, at 7,765.8. That is a screen. It is not a cash close.
Macro Impact. A score that rises from 38 to 43 means the book moved toward the CAUTION line and stopped short. The error is to buy Wednesday's Nasdaq rise because the label is still neutral. The other error is to sell the crude sleeve, or to buy the long bond, because 43 feels close to 45. It is not 45. An open Asia dip does not rewrite a score that uses Wednesday's US close.
Positioning. Trade 43 as a hold, not as a dip to buy, and not as a return to CAUTION. Hold cash. Hold the crude sleeve. Stay underweight duration. Do not add high beta tech. Do not add defense. A Korea screen is not a US repair, and it is not a US break.
Key Sources. Wednesday closes on the same feed as the score. Reuters, 22 Oct, https://www.reuters.com/world/china/global-markets-global-markets-2026-10-22/
Wednesday's Settlement Barely Moved. Do Not Trade the Screen.Signal. The close story said oil settled with little change. The Thursday screen is a different clock.
The close story said Brent settled 3 cents higher, or 0.03 percent, at 108.82 dollars. Both benchmarks had gained more than 2 dollars earlier in the session. That intraday rise is not the settlement. Adding the 3 cents back lands on 108.79. That is the prior settlement implied by the close story. Do not put a Thursday screen in front of 108.82.
The close story said US crude closed down 67 cents, or 0.7 percent, at 97.15 dollars. The story did not name the month. Adding 67 cents back lands on 97.82. That lines up with the active contract after Tuesday's expiry. It does not line up with November. November expired Tuesday. Its settlement was 101.79 dollars. Do not trade 97.15 as November falling apart.
Two Thursday Brent screens disagree, and neither is the settlement. At 00:34 GMT a wire had Brent up 1.29 dollars, or 1.2 percent, at 110.11 dollars, and US crude up 97 cents, or 1 percent, at 98.12 dollars. A later Asia note had Brent 1.1 percent higher, at 110.03 dollars. This feed's Wednesday Brent bar printed 110.40. Its Wednesday crude bar printed 98.32. None of those is the settlement. Do not average 108.82, 110.11, 110.03, and 110.40. Do not average 97.15, 98.12, and 98.32. Do not trade 98.12 as a crash in the expired November print of 101.79.
The same wires carried the offsets and the draws. US crude stocks fell by 3.06 million barrels, to 412.5 million barrels, against an expected draw of 820,000 barrels. Distillate stocks rose by 1.68 million barrels, to 104.3 million barrels, against an expected drop of 1.16 million barrels. A crude draw in that print is not a product squeeze in that print. The energy department is offering to loan up to nearly a third of a 1 million barrel heating oil reserve. That offer is not a cargo that replaces the missing Gulf flow.
Macro Impact. A 3 cent rise in the Brent settlement, to 108.82 dollars, does not open the strait and does not clear it. A 67 cent drop in the active crude settlement, to 97.15 dollars, does not either. Selling the sleeve because the settlement was flat, or because distillates rose in one weekly print, is the trap. Adding the sleeve because the 00:34 GMT screen is at 110.11 dollars, or because this feed printed 110.40, is the other trap.
The energy sector fund rose 0.3 percent on Wednesday, to 68.16. The oil fund eased 0.5 percent, to 159.80. Those are not a crash, and they are not a new entry.
Positioning. Hold the core crude sleeve. Do not sell it. Do not add it. Do not trade 110.40 as the settlement. Do not trade 98.32 as November. Do not trade 98.12 as a close. Do not trade a Thursday screen as Wednesday's book.

The Nasdaq Rose. Do Not Chase Chips.Signal. Wednesday's cash close is a technology tape. It is not a reason to buy the open.
The S&P 500 rose 0.58 percent, to 7,757.17. The Dow rose 0.69 percent, to 52,856.09. The Nasdaq rose 1.05 percent, to 26,702.86. The close story said the technology sector rose 1.6 percent, the biggest gainer among the eleven sectors. Communication services fell 1.3 percent. Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 1.37 to 1 on the New York exchange, and by 1.3 to 1 on the Nasdaq. That is a rise. It is less broad than Tuesday's tape. Do not call it the same shape.
The chip index rose 2 percent in the close story. The semiconductor fund rose 1.9 percent on this feed, to 556.70 from Tuesday's 546.36. Do not average 2 and 1.9. Nvidia rose 2.5 percent yesterday, to 221.97 from Tuesday's 216.47. A one day rise is not a repair of last week's streak, and it is not a new entry.
SpaceX finished 7.8 percent higher in the close story after it posted a first profit as a public company. A merger comment is not a cash close for the whole tape. Super Micro finished 9.6 percent higher in that same close story after a forecast that topped estimates. A later note said 9.5 percent. Do not average 9.6 and 9.5. Use the close story for the cash session.
Netflix finished 5.3 percent lower, at 65.04 on this feed, after a weaker fourth quarter profit forecast. Alphabet finished 1.6 percent lower. Those are cash closes. They are not a reason to buy the chip rise.
Tesla finished 3.4 percent higher in the cash session, at 386.47 on this feed. It reported after the close. The close story said the price rose another 1.6 percent after the report. A later earnings note said the price rose in after hours and then traded down 2 percent. Those later prints do not agree. Do not average them. Do not trade either as the cash close. The earnings note said 2026 capital spending was cut to roughly 20 billion dollars, from more than 25 billion, and that third quarter free cash flow was 1.53 billion dollars against an expected cash burn. A lower spending forecast is not a cash close.
Meta finished 0.5 percent higher in the cash session, at 697.52 on this feed. It reported after the close. The close story said the price rose 3 percent in late trading. The earnings note said the price rose more than 4 percent in extended trading. Do not average 3 and 4. Do not trade either as the cash close. The earnings note said annual capital spending is now 135 billion to 145 billion dollars, from a prior range that started at 130 billion. A higher floor on spending is not a cash close. The cash close is the book.
Macro Impact. A 1.05 percent rise in the Nasdaq, with the chip index up 2 percent in the close story, is why narrative stress fell to 0. It is not a reason to buy the semiconductor fund. Shorting the Nasdaq because communication services fell 1.3 percent is the other error. The Nasdaq rose 1.05 percent. An open Asia dip does not rewrite that close. After hours prints that disagree are not the close.
Positioning. Do not buy the semiconductor fund. Do not buy the US chip open because Wednesday rose. Do not add high beta tech into next week's reports. A starter in utilities is still cleaner than a chip chase. The utilities fund rose 0.3 percent, to 42.00. That is not a reason to add. Keep financials small. The fund rose 0.6 percent, to 56.04. That is not a new entry.

The Yield Index Rose. Do Not Buy Bonds.Signal. No new US inflation print arrived overnight. The yield index rose. A cash yield story eased. A Thursday screen is lower still. Those are three clocks. A hold next week is the priced base. A cut is not.
The 10 year yield index closed at 5.146 percent, up 2.9 basis points from Tuesday's 5.117. The 5 year yield index closed at 4.972 percent, up 3.7 basis points. The bill index closed at 4.063 percent, down 1.7 basis points from Tuesday's 4.080. The long bond fund rose 0.1 percent, to 80.24. A small rise in the fund, with a higher yield index, is not one story. Do not force it.
The Wednesday close story said the cash 10 year yield shed 0.6 basis point, to 5.111 percent. That is not this index. A Thursday Asia note said the cash yield was down 4.2 basis points, at 5.1065 percent, and that the 30 year yield was at 5.3968 percent. That is a screen. Do not average 5.146, 5.111, and 5.1065.
A dollar wire said the Federal Reserve is seen on hold in October, with the policy rate window at 3.75 to 4 percent, and hiking in December. The same wire said holds are expected next week in Japan and Europe as well. It said the European Central Bank is expected to hold at 2.5 percent next week, with a hike priced before the year's end. It said the next hike in Japan, to 1.5 percent, is expected early next year. Those are bets in a wire. They are not decisions. Do not average them with a different poll.
The calendar marks the US meeting on 27 to 28 Oct. There are no projections at that meeting. Decision day is 28 Oct (Wed). The following meeting, with projections, is 8 to 9 Dec. A hike in October is not the base case in the dollar wire. A cut is not the base case.
The consumption price gauge is not out. Personal income and outlays for September, and the first read on third quarter output, are both 29 Oct (Thu) at 08:30 ET. That is the morning after the decision. It is not a print before the meeting. September consumer prices already printed. Do not treat them as a new release.
The dollar index in the close story fell 0.14 percent, to 101.65. This feed's Wednesday bar is 101.65, and its Tuesday bar is 101.73. A Thursday note printed 102.2. That does not match this close. Do not use it. The gold fund closed at 378.95, up 0.34 percent. A Thursday note had gold slightly lower, at 4,115.50 dollars an ounce. This feed's Wednesday last print was 4,138.40. I am not calling either a settlement. Do not average them.
France's 10 year yield hit 5 percent in the Wednesday close story, which called that the first time since 2002. A later note said the highest since 2022. Do not average 2002 and 2022. Use the close story. It is not a US close.
Macro Impact. A 2.9 basis point rise in the yield index, with a December hike as the priced base in the dollar wire, keeps a cut off the table. It does not make October the base case for a hike. The error is to buy the long bond because the cash story eased, or because a Thursday screen is at 5.1065 percent. The other error is to add to the duration short because the index rose 2.9 basis points, or because the fiscal score jumped from 61 to 74. The clocks do not agree. That is why you do neither.
Positioning. Stay underweight long duration. Do not cover it. Do not add to the short. Hold cash and short bills over the long end. The long bond fund rose 0.1 percent on Wednesday. That is not a buy, and it is not a reason to add to the short.

| Position | Weight | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Overweight | ||
| Crude / energy (USO, XOM, CVX) | +2% | Hold it. Brent settled at 108.82 dollars. The active crude settlement was 97.15. The strait is not open. The flat settlement is why you do not sell. The diplomat order and the 110.11 screen are why you do not add. The continuous print of 110.40 is not the settlement |
| Power / utilities (XLU) | +1% | Hold the starter. It is cleaner than a chip chase. The fund rose 0.3 percent on Wednesday, to 42.00. That is not a reason to add |
| Cash / short bills | High | The yield index closed at 5.146 percent. The score is 43. A rise inside neutral is not a bond buy |
| Underweight | ||
| Long duration (TLT, IEF) | −5% | The yield index rose 2.9 basis points. A cash story eased. A Thursday screen is lower. Do not average them. A priced hold next week is not a cover. A December hike is the priced base in the dollar wire. Do not add to the short |
| Semis / high beta tech (SMH) | −2% | The chip index rose 2 percent in the close story. The fund rose 1.9 percent. Do not chase. Do not buy the dip if the open gives it back |
| Airlines / transport (DAL, AAL) | −2% | No all clear. The strait is not open. An order to leave Saudi Arabia is not a reason to add airlines |
| China cyclicals (FXI, EEM) | −2% | No new decision. The China fund fell 1.7 percent. Do not chase the dip |
| Defense (ITA, LMT) | 0% | Staff were ordered out. That is not a US strike order. A report of plans after 3 Nov is not an order. Do not add defense |
| Gold (GLD) | 0% | The fund rose 0.34 percent. No new settlement. Not a new entry |
| Financials (XLF) | 0% | The fund rose 0.6 percent, to 56.04. Keep it small. Do not add |
Cash stays high. A 43 score says the CAUTION label is still off and the dip bid is still off. It does not say buy duration, sell energy, or buy chips. Trade 43 as a 5.146 percent yield index, a Brent settlement of 108.82 dollars, an active crude settlement of 97.15 dollars, a strait that is not open, and a stock tape that rose in the Nasdaq. The diplomat order is a reason to hold the sleeve. It is not a reason to add it before the next settlement.

| 22 Oct (Thu) | Procter and Gamble stamp on this feed, 08:00 ET. Not out. The US cash session has not opened | Medium |
| 27 to 28 Oct (Tue to Wed) | US policy meeting. No projections. Decision day is 28 Oct (Wed). A dollar wire sees a hold. A hike is not the base case. A cut is not the base case | High |
| 28 Oct (Wed) | US policy decision. Alphabet and Microsoft stamps on this feed, 16:00 ET. A dollar wire expects holds the same week in Europe and Japan. Those are bets in a wire, not dates I am assigning | High |
| 29 Oct (Thu) | Personal income and outlays for September, and the first read on third quarter output, both 08:30 ET. The morning after the decision. Amazon stamp on this feed, 16:00 ET | High |
| 30 Oct (Fri) | Exxon and Chevron stamps on this feed, 08:00 ET | High |
| 3 Nov (Tue) | US midterms. An Asia note, citing the New York Times, placed reported attack plans after this date. A report of plans is not an order. The edge of this window | Medium |
| Coming days | More protests are planned in France. The Wednesday close story said the president vowed to prevent a repeat of last weekend. Not a US close. This note does not have a Saturday stamp it is willing to print | Low |
| 17 Nov (Tue) | Next Nvidia date on this feed, 15:00 ET. Outside this window. The prior quarter has already been reported. Do not treat 17 Nov as this week | Medium |
| 8 to 9 Dec (Tue to Wed) | Following US policy meeting, with projections. Outside this window. A dollar wire sees a hike. A cut is not the base case in this note | High |
Weekdays above match the calendar. Tesla, Meta, Lam Research, Texas Instruments, and Netflix have already reported. Do not treat them as still ahead. September consumer prices already printed. Do not treat them as a new release.
| Variable | Score | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Fiscal Impulse | 74 | 10Y at 5.15% — moderately restrictive |
| CB Elasticity | 58 | 5Y at 4.88% — below neutral, Fed constrained by inflation above target |
| Flow Pressure | 24 | VIX 16.7 — lowest reading in weeks, low fear despite Iran/oil |
| Narrative Coherence | 0 | SPY +0.2%/5d | QQQ-SPY breadth -11 |
| Composite | 43 | NEUTRAL |
Regime thresholds: <30 RISK-ON | 30-44 NEUTRAL | 45-60 CAUTION | ≥61 RISK-OFF
The scorecard registers NEUTRAL — VIX at 16.68, 10Y at 5.15%. Stress is moderate. A VIX spike or a 10Y jump would push toward CAUTION.
The label did not flip. The score is 43. Yesterday it was 38. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. A higher score means more stress. The score rose because the yield index rose more than the fear gauge fell. It did not cross 45. It did not cross 30. It did not move to a crash. It did not return to CAUTION.
Data through the 21 Oct 2026 US close. This is a Thursday edition before the US open. Asia is open. A Thursday screen is not a settlement. Do not trade an open session as a close.
