Oil eased in Asia. That is not a new close.
China grew 4.5 percent. Home demand is weak.
The caution score still stands. It is 49.
Stocks fell on Friday. Do not buy the dip.
Import prices were hot. Do not buy bonds. The flip stands. It is not a new flip. Score 49 of 100. The label is CAUTION. Yesterday the score was 49. The reading before Friday's close was scored was 39. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. The line for RISK-ON is 30.
This is a Monday edition before the US open. US cash markets are shut. The score uses Friday's close. There is no Monday settlement.
China's third quarter print is out. Growth was 4.5 percent from a year earlier. That is a print. The oil move in Asia is a screen. It is not a print.
Do not sell the crude sleeve because the screen eased. Do not add it because a mine claim or an Egypt statement arrived. Do not buy chips because stock futures bounced. Do not buy the long bond because a yield screen dipped.
Friday is the last completed US session. Oil rows name the contract. A Monday screen is not a settlement. The continuous crude feed is not the November contract. A touch of 110 on Friday is not the Brent settlement.

| December WTI (Fri close) | 99.02 dollars | Not the November settlement |
| December WTI (Mon screen) | 97.49 dollars | This feed's last print. Down 1.53 dollars, or 1.5 percent, vs Friday's 99.02. Not November |
| Gold fund (Fri close) | 382.01 | Down 0.2 percent vs Thursday's 382.71. No Monday close. Not a futures settlement |
| Dollar index (Fri close) | 101.84 | Down 0.16 percent vs Thursday's 102.00. No new cash close |
Reuters said Brent futures fell 1.94 dollars, or 1.77 percent, to 107.92 dollars by 0227 GMT, after Friday's settlement. It said US crude was at 100.58 dollars, down 83 cents, or 0.82 percent. This feed's December Brent last print is 107.89. This feed's November crude last print is 100.58. A few cents versus the wire is not a second settlement.
A later markets wrap put Brent futures down 1.6 percent, to a 108.06 dollar print, and US crude down 0.7 percent, to a 100.70 dollar print. That is a different clock. Do not average 107.92 and 108.06. Do not average 100.58 and 100.70.
The continuous crude feed last printed 97.47. That lines up with December, which last printed 97.49, not with November at 100.58. Do not trade 97.47 as the November settlement falling apart.
On the week, versus the 9 Oct (Fri) close, the S&P fell 1.9 percent, the Nasdaq fell 4.5 percent, and the Dow rose 0.7 percent. The chip index fell 11.4 percent. The semiconductor fund fell 10.5 percent. The energy sector fund rose 4.9 percent. The oil fund rose 9.2 percent.
This note does not cite volume. Friday's volume on these oil contracts repeated Thursday's print on this feed. That is not a thin market and it is not a thick one. The Monday session is still open.
The Oil Screen Eased. Friday's Settlement Stands.Signal. Asia marked crude down. It did not write a new settlement.
December Brent settled Friday at 109.86 dollars. November crude settled Friday at 101.41 dollars. By 0227 GMT on Monday, Reuters said Brent futures were at a 107.92 dollar print, down 1.77 percent from that Friday settlement, and US crude was at a 100.58 dollar print, down 0.82 percent. This feed matches those two screens. A later wrap had 108.06 and 100.70. None of those is a settlement.
The continuous feed last printed 97.47. December crude last printed 97.49, against a Friday close of 99.02 on that same contract. November is still the contract in the 0227 GMT wire. This feed stamps November expiry at 20 Oct (Tue). After Tuesday, a lower headline can be a roll into December. It is not, by itself, a crash in Friday's 101.41 dollar settlement.
The strait is not open. Iran's foreign minister said on Sunday the offer to reopen it is still on the table. The offer needs US acceptance of seven conditions, including an end to the port blockade, an end to sanctions on Iranian oil, and an end to hostilities. He said the strait could reopen within six days if those conditions are accepted. He also said there is no honesty on the US side. A security chief said last week the US response was insufficient. An offer is not an opening.
A markets wrap said Iran reported another tanker had hit a mine. That line has no ship name and no independent confirmation in the wrap. Saturday's report of two tankers still had no independent confirmation in the earlier wire. A mine claim is not a new oil close.
The waiver is a review, not a cargo. The president signed an order on Friday waiving Russia sanctions and tariffs that were due this week. On Saturday he said he has yet to announce a final decision. The secretary of state said the review can run up to 60 days. A Sunday post said the aim was to avoid driving Russia from the bargaining table. Do not trade the order as barrels. Do not trade the Saturday sentence as a reversal of the order.
The diesel wires do not agree, and this note does not blend them. One Monday wire, citing the president's announcement, said about 2.3 million barrels this month, then about 7.6 million barrels a month. A Saturday wire said more than 300,000 metric tons to the United States at first, then further shipments. The energy secretary said on Sunday the deal is a carrot, not a lifeline, and that extra diesel exports require Russia to turn down the war in Ukraine. Even the larger monthly figure is not a replacement for the missing Gulf flow.
Kpler said on Friday, in a note cited Monday, that Gulf crude flows fell to about 8.5 million barrels a day on a seven day average last week, from more than 20 million the week before. It said at least 10 confirmed incidents involving commercial vessels were reported last week. That is a Friday note. It is not a Monday settlement.
Egypt said on Sunday it is ready to support Saudi Arabia against the Houthis. Parliament was still discussing that on Monday. That is not a deployment. The Houthis have hit the Riyadh airport and Saudi Aramco in recent days. That raises the stake. It does not put Egyptian troops in the water.
Macro Impact. A 1.77 percent screen in Brent, against a Friday settlement of 109.86 dollars, does not open the strait and does not replace a flow cut from more than 20 million barrels a day to about 8.5 million. Selling the sleeve on the screen is the trap. Adding it on a mine claim, or on an Egypt statement, is the other trap. The energy sector fund rose 2.5 percent on Friday and 4.9 percent on the week. The oil fund rose 2.8 percent on Friday and 9.2 percent on the week. Those rises are why you do not add.
Positioning. Hold the core crude sleeve. Do not sell it. Do not add it. Do not add the energy sector fund. Do not trade the continuous print of 97.47 as November. Cash still beats a chase into an open session. Do not add defense. An Egypt statement without a deployment is not a US order.

China Grew 4.5 Percent. Do Not Chase It.Signal. The quarterly print is out. It beat the forecast. It is not a domestic boom.
The statistics bureau said third quarter output rose 4.5 percent from a year earlier. The second quarter was 4.3 percent. The first quarter was 5.0 percent. The third quarter rose 1.2 percent from the prior quarter. The first nine months rose 4.6 percent. Reuters said the third quarter beat a 4.4 percent forecast, and the quarterly pace beat a 1.1 percent forecast. The annual target range is 4.5 percent to 5.0 percent. The nine month pace sits inside that range.
The split is the story. Industrial output rose 5.5 percent in September from a year earlier, 0.3 percentage points faster than August. Reuters said that was in line with the forecast and the quickest in six months. Retail sales of consumer goods rose 1.1 percent in September from a year earlier, 0.7 percentage points faster than August. Reuters said the forecast was 0.6 percent, and that this was the quickest since March. Fixed asset investment fell 7.2 percent in the first nine months, the same pace as the first eight months. Infrastructure investment fell 4.2 percent. Real estate development investment fell 20.6 percent. Sales of new commercial buildings fell 13.2 percent by floor space and 13.9 percent by value, both in the first nine months, from a year earlier.
High tech manufacturing rose 14.3 percent in the first nine months. That is the export and factory side. It is not the home side.
Macro Impact. A tenth of a point over a 4.4 percent forecast eases the case for emergency stimulus. Reuters said policymakers held back from a large new package because exports, helped by the tech boom, should be enough to stay inside the annual range. That is not a reason to buy China cyclicals. A 20.6 percent drop in property investment in the first nine months is not a recovery. The error is to buy the China fund because the headline beat. The other error is to short it into a beat that is already out.
Positioning. Stay underweight China cyclicals. Do not add the China fund. Do not short it. The print does not repair US chips, and it does not open the strait. Let the US cash open price its own book.

The Score Is Still 49. A Futures Bounce Is Not a Close.Signal. The label did not move. US cash did not get a new close.
The score is 49. Yesterday it was 49. It has been 49 since Friday's close was scored. The reading before that was 39. Fiscal pressure is 61, unchanged. Central bank pressure is 52, unchanged. Flow pressure is 53, unchanged. Narrative stress is 20, unchanged. VIX closed at 19.99 on Friday, up 3.53 points. The close is under 20. Do not trade a fear headline from Friday's session as a new close.
A markets wrap said S&P futures were up 0.5 percent and Nasdaq futures were up 0.8 percent, helped by the oil slip. It said the Nikkei was down 2.0 percent in that wrap, after a 5.4 percent loss last week, and South Korea was down 1.6 percent, after shedding more than 14 percent last week. Those are levels in the wrap. Tokyo and Seoul were still open. They are not local closes, and they are not a US cash close.
Macro Impact. A score that stays at 49 means the CAUTION label is on, and the crash call is still not. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. The score is 12 points short of that line. Using 49 as a reason to liquidate energy and buy duration is the mistake. Using a futures bounce as a reason to buy Friday's dip is the other mistake. The Nasdaq fell 2.15 percent on Friday. The Dow fell 0.34 percent. Those are not the same tape.
Positioning. Trade 49 as a flip that already happened, not as a new one, and not as a dip to buy. Hold cash. Hold the crude sleeve. Stay underweight duration. Do not add high beta tech. Do not add defense. The US cash open is the first session that can confirm or fade Friday's close.

Chips Fell on Friday. Do Not Buy the Dip.Signal. Friday's cash close is still the equity book. The weekend did not repair it. A futures bounce is not a repair.
The S&P 500 fell 1.09 percent on Friday, to 7,659.44. The Nasdaq fell 2.15 percent, to 26,140.03. The Dow fell 0.34 percent, to 52,002.41. On the week, versus the 9 Oct (Fri) close, the Nasdaq fell 4.5 percent, the S&P fell 1.9 percent, and the Dow rose 0.7 percent.
The chip index fell 3.8 percent on Friday, to 11,137.29 from 11,581.21. On the week, versus the 9 Oct close, it fell 11.4 percent. Reuters called that week the longest losing streak since 2008. The semiconductor fund fell 3.4 percent on Friday and 10.5 percent on the week. The Nasdaq fund fell 2.5 percent on Friday. The S&P fund fell 1.1 percent on Friday. Do not read stocks as one price.
Results start Tuesday. Netflix reports after the close on 20 Oct (Tue), at 16:00 ET. Tesla, Meta, Lam Research, and Texas Instruments report after the close on 21 Oct (Wed), at 16:00 ET. Reuters, citing Goldman Sachs, said five large AI builders are expected to lift capital spending to about 1.2 trillion dollars next year. That is a forecast in a wire. It is not a print. It is the funding worry in front of those reports. It is not a reason to buy the dip before the reports.
The next Nvidia date on this feed is 17 Nov (Tue). That is outside this window. Do not treat it as this week.
Macro Impact. A 1.09 percent drop in the S&P, with the chip index down 11.4 percent on the week and the Dow down only 0.34 percent on Friday, is the rotation out of the high beta trade. It is not a market wide crash. Buying the semiconductor fund because futures bounced is how Friday's loss becomes Monday's loss. Shorting the Dow because chips fell is the other error. The Dow is up 0.7 percent on the week.
Positioning. Do not buy the semiconductor fund. Do not short it into an open session. Do not add high beta tech. A starter in utilities is still the cleaner expression than a chip dip. The utilities fund rose 1.3 percent on Friday. That is not a reason to add. Keep financials small. The financials fund rose 0.5 percent on Friday.
Key Sources. Friday closes on this feed. Reuters, 19 Oct, https://www.reuters.com/world/china/global-markets-global-markets-2026-10-19/
Import Prices Were Hot. Do Not Buy Bonds.Signal. No new US inflation print arrived overnight. Friday's print is still the one that matters. It was hot. A yield screen in Asia is not a new cash close.
Import prices rose 1.1 percent in September, after a 0.5 percent rise in August. On the year, import prices rose 8.1 percent, the largest 12 month rise since July 2022. Fuel import prices rose 4.8 percent on the month and 34.5 percent on the year. Prices excluding fuel rose 0.7 percent on the month and 6.0 percent on the year. Export prices rose 2.2 percent on the month and 11.6 percent on the year, the largest 12 month rise since July 2022. The next import and export price release is 17 Nov (Tue), outside this window.
The chair, speaking on Friday, gave no preview of the next meeting. A hike in October is not the base case. A cut is not the base case. The meeting is 27 to 28 Oct (Tue to Wed). There are no projections at that meeting. Decision day is the second day.
The yield index did not confirm a bond bid on Friday and did not confirm a bond break. The 10 year yield index closed at 5.098 percent, up 0.9 basis points from Thursday's 5.089. The 5 year yield index closed unchanged at 4.899 percent. A markets wrap put a 10 year yield screen at 5.0645 percent, down 3 basis points. That is not Friday's yield index close. It is not a US cash close. The long bond fund rose 0.1 percent on Friday. That is the close on this feed.
The Bank of Canada announces on 28 Oct (Wed) at 09:45 ET, with a Monetary Policy Report, before the US decision. Today's business and consumer surveys are at 11:30 ET. They are not out. The dollar index on this feed closed Friday at 101.84, down 0.16 percent from Thursday. A wrap said the euro eased 0.2 percent to 1.1212 dollars on French unrest. That is not a new dollar index close. The gold fund closed Friday at 382.01, down 0.2 percent. A wire's 4,181 dollar gold line matches Friday's futures close on this feed. A later print on this feed is 4,194.60. Neither is a new settlement.
Macro Impact. A 1.1 percent import price jump, and a 2.2 percent export price jump, keep a cut off the table. They do not make October the base case for a hike. The error is to read a 3 basis point yield screen, or a 0.1 percent rise in the long bond fund on Friday, as the central bank turning easy. The other error is to add to the duration short because the chair stayed quiet.
Positioning. Stay underweight long duration. Do not cover it. Do not add to the short. Hold cash and short bills over the long end. The long bond fund rose 0.1 percent on Friday. A 3 basis point screen is not a buy.

| Position | Weight | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Overweight | ||
| Crude / energy (USO, XOM, CVX) | +2% | Hold it. December Brent settled at 109.86 dollars. November crude settled at 101.41. The strait is not open. The Friday rise is why you do not add. The Asia screen is why you do not sell. The continuous print of 97.47 is December, not November |
| Power / utilities (XLU) | +1% | Hold the starter. It is the cleaner expression than a chip dip. The fund rose 1.3 percent on Friday. That is not a reason to add |
| Cash / short bills | High | The yield index closed at 5.098 percent. The score is 49. US cash has not opened. A 49 score is not a bond buy |
| Underweight | ||
| Long duration (TLT, IEF) | −5% | Friday's close did not break and did not ease enough to cover. A 3 basis point screen is not a cover. October is not the base case for a hike. Do not add to the short |
| Semis / high beta tech (SMH) | −2% | The chip index fell 11.4 percent on the week. Reports start Tuesday. Do not buy the dip. Do not short the Dow |
| Airlines / transport (DAL, AAL) | −2% | No new all clear. November crude is still the settlement in the book. Do not add |
| China cyclicals (FXI, EEM) | −2% | The print is out. 4.5 percent in the third quarter is a thin beat. Property investment fell 20.6 percent in the first nine months. Do not chase the headline |
| Defense (ITA, LMT) | 0% | No new US order. An Egypt statement is not a deployment. Do not add defense |
| Gold (GLD) | 0% | The fund fell 0.2 percent on Friday. No new settlement. Not a new entry |
| Financials (XLF) | 0% | The sector fund rose 0.5 percent on Friday. Keep it small. Do not add |
Cash stays high. An unchanged 49 says leave the crash urgency off and leave the dip bid off. It does not say buy duration, sell energy, or buy chips. Trade 49 as a 5.098 percent yield index, a December Brent settlement of 109.86 dollars, a November crude settlement of 101.41 dollars, a strait that is not open, a China print that is not a boom, and a stock tape that fell instead of repairing.

The flip stands. The score is 49. Yesterday it was 49. The reading before Friday's close was scored was 39, and the label was NEUTRAL. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. A higher score means more stress. The label moved on Friday's close. It did not move again overnight. It did not move to a crash.
Data through the 16 Oct 2026 US close. This is a Monday edition before the US open. There is no Monday settlement. China's print is out. The oil screen is not a settlement. Do not trade an open session as a close.
