Prices print later today. Do not buy the bond.
More ships were hit. The strait is not open.
Korea closed down hard Tuesday. Do not buy chips.
The score is 38. Still neutral. Not a flip.NOT A REGIME FLIP. Score 38 of 100. The label is still NEUTRAL. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. Yesterday's score was 41.
The new cash close is Tuesday's. The inflation print is not in this note. It is due later today. Asia cash sessions were still open at 04:46 CEST. Do not trade those screens as closes.
Do not buy the bond into the print. Do not sell energy on a mixed oil settlement. Do not buy the chip dip because Korea bounced on a screen.
Tuesday is the last completed US session. Oil settlement rows are the Reuters close, not the overnight screen. Asia rows are a Wednesday morning wire. Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong were still open.

The 96 cent drop in Brent, from 106.65 dollars to 105.69 dollars, is the same contract as Monday. It is not a roll. The 40 cent rise in WTI, from 93.74 dollars to 94.14 dollars, is the same contract as Monday. It is not a roll.
The Wednesday Brent screen of 106.6 dollars is not that settlement. Do not average the screen and the settlement.
The Inflation Print Is Later Today. Do Not Buy the Bond.Signal. Tuesday's cash close is in. Wednesday's inflation print is not.
The 10-year yield index closed at 5.217 percent. Reuters said the benchmark fell 2.72 basis points to 5.22 percent, away from the 5.364 percent high it hit last week. That high was described as a 24-year high. A dip of about 3 basis points is not a new path.
New York Fed president John Williams said it may still be appropriate to raise rates once more this year. He said he does not, at this time, see a need for a hike in 2027. He said the labor market is not the inflation driver he is watching. Energy and tech investment are. The policy rate is 3.75 percent to 4.00 percent after the September hike.
At the US close, Reuters put the chance of a hold at this month's meeting at 80.6 percent, using the CME tool. The Wednesday Asia note, using the same tool, put the chance of an October hike at 22 percent. Those are two snapshots. This note does not blend them. A cut is not the base case in either.
PIMCO's chief investment officer said he expects a hold this month, and probably one more hike this year. His range was one to two tightenings. He said the yield peak may still be ahead, and that housing and commercial property are where the pain shows. That is a view. It is not a fill.
Economists, on average, estimated September headline inflation at an annual 3.6 percent, with core prices up 0.2 percent on the month, Reuters said. That is a forecast. It is not the print. The print is 14 Oct (Wed), at 08:30 ET. Real earnings are on the same release.
Macro Impact. A 3 basis point dip, into a print that is not out, does not fund a bond buy. A hot print can put last week's yield high back in play. A cool print can extend the dip. Williams still wants one more hike this year. The October meeting is priced as a hold, not as the end of the hiking talk. Buying the long bond because the score eased to 38 is how a quiet tape becomes a bad book by the afternoon.
Positioning. Stay underweight long duration (TLT, IEF). Do not cover it. Do not add to the short into the print. Hold cash and short bills over the long end. The trade is to wait for the number, not to guess it.

Signal. Do not trade one oil number as the whole complex.
Brent futures settled at 105.69 dollars, down 96 cents, or 0.9 percent, from Monday's 106.65 dollar settlement. Monday was the highest Brent settlement since 15 Sep (Tue). WTI settled at 94.14 dollars, up 40 cents, or 0.4 percent, from Monday's 93.74. That was the highest WTI close since 24 Sep (Thu).
The Wednesday Asia wire printed a Brent screen of 106.6 dollars and a US crude screen of 94.96 dollars, up 0.8 percent versus Tuesday's settlement on the wire's own line. Those are screens. Tuesday's settlements still stand.
The story under the mix is the same clash as Tuesday morning, now with a close. Reuters said hopes of more Russian diesel offset attacks in Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The Kremlin said the diesel export deal has no direct link to the Ukraine talks. US diesel futures were up around 5 percent on Tuesday. That is products. It is not the crude settlement, and it is not a cargo in a tank.
Iran is changing how it hits ships. Two Iranian officials told Reuters that Tehran adopted new tactics about 10 days ago, to keep oil prices high into the US vote. A US official said Iran is using unarmed spotters in small boats after much of its radar was destroyed, and that it has not been able to stop an export ramp-up. There were at least five incidents involving commercial ships in the past 48 hours, Reuters said, citing maritime security sources and UKMTO. One Iranian official said a complete closure is coming soon. That is a claim. The strait is not closed. The US Navy-led center still rates the threat as severe.
Loud booms were reported near Saudi Aramco's headquarters in Dhahran. The Houthis said Saudi forces were striking Sanaa after a warning to stay away from an oil depot. OPEC said September group output rose sharply on higher Saudi production, and it cut its 2026 demand growth view again. This note does not have the new barrel count.
Macro Impact. A 0.9 percent dip in the Brent settlement, with WTI up on the day, does not open the strait and does not deliver the diesel. Selling the core energy sleeve on the Brent line is the trap. Adding energy into today's inflation print, because a screen bounced or an official promised a closure, is the other trap. The settlement is still above 100 dollars on Brent. The threat is still severe. Neither fact is a new trade.
China's factory-gate prices rose 5 percent from a year earlier in September, the fastest since June 2022, versus 3.8 percent in August. Consumer prices rose 0.9 percent, below the 1 percent forecast. Gasoline prices in China rose 16.6 percent from a year earlier. That is the oil shock passing into factory costs. It is not a Chinese demand boom.
Positioning. Hold the core energy sleeve (USO, XOM, CVX). Do not sell it. Do not add it. The energy sector fund rose 1.8 percent yesterday. The oil fund rose 1.4 percent. That followed WTI, not the Brent dip. Cash still beats a chase into the inflation print.

Korea Closed Down Hard. The Bounce Is a Screen.Signal. Tuesday's US tape contained the chip shock. It did not repair it.
The Kospi closed at 6,035.35 on this pull, down 5.5 percent from Monday's 6,384.24. Reuters, during Tuesday's session, had described a drop of more than 6 percent. The close is the number that matters. It was still a hard down day.
On Wall Street, the Philadelphia semiconductor index lost more than 2 percent, Reuters said. The Nasdaq fell 0.15 percent. The S&P 500 fell 0.02 percent. Nvidia rose 1.0 percent yesterday, from 226.32 to 228.52. The semiconductor fund fell 0.5 percent. Do not read "chips" as one price.
The trigger from Tuesday still stands. Reported progress by China's ChangXin Memory, and a Broadcom comment that likened some AI flows to casino gambling, were the wires' reasons. This note does not have a new demand print. It is a competition scare, not a proof that spending stopped.
Wednesday's Asia wire said the selloff eased. Samsung and SK Hynix rose more than 2 percent. The Kospi was up 1.8 percent. The Nikkei was up 0.2 percent. Those sessions were not closed. A bounce off a 5.5 percent close, in a session that is still open, is not a repair.
S&P futures were up 0.04 percent at 7,858.8 on that same wire. That is not a cash bid.
Macro Impact. A flat S&P, with the chip index down more than 2 percent and Korea down 5.5 percent on the close, is a split tape. Buying the US chip open because Asia bounced is how yesterday's warning becomes today's loss. Shorting the whole market because Korea broke is the other error. The S&P did not break.
Positioning. Do not buy the semiconductor fund (SMH). Do not short it. Do not add high-beta tech on a screen. A starter in utilities is still the cleaner expression than a chip dip. Do not add China (FXI, EEM). Factory prices there are hot because of oil. Consumer prices are not.

Signal. The quarter started with a miss at the largest US bank, and lower stocks even where profits beat.
JPMorgan earned 5.57 dollars a share, against a 5.85 dollar estimate. Reuters called it the first profit miss in nearly three years. Investment banking fees fell 8 percent from the second quarter. Equity trading revenue rose 49 percent from a year earlier. Bond trading fell 4 percent. The stock fell 0.86 percent on the day.
Wells Fargo beat the profit estimate, 1.87 dollars against 1.85. Net interest income and revenue missed. The stock fell 3.1 percent. The chief executive said inflation and higher rates are still headwinds, and that the longer they last, the more pressure they put on clients.
Goldman Sachs fell 0.23 percent after its results. Citigroup fell 5.6 percent on this pull. Reuters called the bank set mixed. This note does not have Citigroup's profit line. The financial sector fund fell 0.4 percent. That is not a sector crash. It is also not a bid.
Macro Impact. A miss at JPMorgan, with deal fees slowing and bond trading soft, fits a world of high yields and an oil shock. It does not say the consumer broke. Wells said it is not seeing a change in borrower or depositor behavior. It also does not fund a duration buy. Bank stocks fell on a day when the 10-year yield dipped. The dip was not the story. The miss was.
Positioning. Keep financials small (XLF). Do not add them. Do not buy the long bond off a bank print. Results are a reason to stay selective, not a reason to chase either side.

The Score Eased to 38. That Is Not an All-Clear.Signal. The label did not move.
Fiscal pressure is 66. Central bank pressure is 54. Flow pressure is 18. Narrative stress is 0. The score is 38. Yesterday it was 41. VIX is 15.27. There is no fear spike. The S&P was flat. The chip split did not register as a broad break in this score, because the index did not break.
The fiscal number did not ease. The IMF said on Wednesday that average public debt is nearing 100 percent of GDP, the highest since the Second World War, and that this year's fiscal results are worse than expected six months ago. It said the Group of Seven average 10-year yield rose more than 110 basis points between February and September. That is the constraint behind a 66. A 3 basis point dip does not retire it.
The dollar index fell 0.34 percent on Tuesday, Reuters said. This pull closed at 102.14. Gold futures last printed 4,186.50, down 0.1 percent from Monday's futures close. This note does not call that a settlement. It is not a flight.
Macro Impact. A score of 38 means the CAUTION label stays off. It does not mean the constraint is gone. Flow pressure eased because there was no panic bid, not because the oil threat ended. Narrative stress at 0 means the S&P held. It does not mean Korea's close was a mirage. Using 38 as a reason to buy duration, sell energy, or buy chips is the mistake.
Positioning. Trade 38 as a pause. Hold cash. Hold energy. Stay underweight duration. Do not buy the chip dip. Do not add defense. There is still no new US order in this note. The president has said he will not attack again before the vote. That is not an all-clear on the strait. It is a reason not to add defense on a headline.

| Position | Weight | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Overweight | ||
| Crude / energy (USO, XOM, CVX) | +2% | Hold it. Brent settled at 105.69 dollars. WTI settled at 94.14. The strait is not open. The lower Brent line is why you do not add. The missing barrels are why you do not sell |
| Power / utilities (XLU) | +1% | Hold the starter. It is the cleaner expression than a chip dip |
| Cash / short bills | High | The 10-year closed at 5.217 percent. The inflation print is later today. A 38 score is not a bond buy |
| Underweight | ||
| Long duration (TLT, IEF) | −5% | Three basis points is not a cover. Williams still wants one more hike this year. Do not add to the short into the print |
| Semis / high-beta tech (SMH) | −2% | Korea closed down 5.5 percent. The US chip index lost more than 2 percent. Do not buy the screen bounce. Do not short the S&P |
| Airlines / transport (DAL, AAL) | −2% | No new all-clear. The prior Riyadh closure ran through 17 Oct (Sat). Do not add |
| China cyclicals (FXI, EEM) | −2% | Producer prices are hot because of oil. Consumer prices missed the forecast. Do not add |
| Defense (ITA, LMT) | 0% | No new US order. Do not add defense on a ship headline |
| Gold (GLD) | 0% | Down 0.1 percent yesterday. Not a flight. Not a new entry |
| Financials (XLF) | 0% | JPMorgan missed. The sector fund fell 0.4 percent. Keep it small |
Cash stays high. The hold at 38 says leave the crash urgency off. It does not say buy duration, sell energy, or buy chips. Trade 38 as a 5.217 percent 10-year, a Brent settlement of 105.69 dollars, a WTI settlement of 94.14 dollars, a strait that is not open, and a Korea close that broke.

| Variable | Score | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Fiscal Impulse | 66 | 10Y at 5.22% — moderately restrictive |
| CB Elasticity | 54 | 5Y at 4.95% — below neutral, Fed constrained by inflation above target |
| Flow Pressure | 18 | VIX 15.3 — lowest reading in weeks, low fear despite Iran/oil |
| Narrative Coherence | 0 | SPY +0.0%/5d | QQQ-SPY breadth -38 |
| Composite | 38 | NEUTRAL |
Regime thresholds: <30 RISK-ON | 30-44 NEUTRAL | 45-60 CAUTION | ≥61 RISK-OFF
The scorecard registers NEUTRAL — VIX at 15.27, 10Y at 5.22%. Stress is moderate. A VIX spike or a 10Y jump would push toward CAUTION.
This is not a flip. The score is 38. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. A higher score means more stress. The label did not move. Trade 38 as a pause, with the inflation print still ahead, Brent settled at 105.69 dollars, WTI settled at 94.14 dollars, and Korea's Tuesday close down 5.5 percent.
Data through the 13 Oct 2026 US close. Asia screens in this note are the 14 Oct 2026 morning wire. Those sessions were still open at 04:46 CEST. The inflation print had not been released.
