Riyadh airport was hit. Twelve dead. No new oil close.
Score stays neutral. Do not buy the bond.NOT A FLIP. Score 39, same as Saturday. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. Saturday added a deadly airport attack and a lower official shut-in. Neither is a new US close.
This is a weekend edition. Friday 9 Oct is the last completed US session. US cash markets are closed. A Sunday screen is not a settlement. Oil rows below are Friday settlements unless labeled as an official shut-in count. A screen is not a settlement.

The S&P 500 closed Friday at 7,811.54, up 46.18 points, or 0.59 percent. It missed Tuesday's record close of 7,818.93 by about 7 points. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 27,366.17, up 0.64 percent. The Dow closed at 51,654.95, up 0.83 percent. For the week ended Friday, the S&P rose 1.2 percent from the 2 Oct close.
VIX closed at 14.84, down 0.57 points from Thursday's 15.41. Fear got cheaper on a day that was not an all-clear. Saturday did not print a new VIX.
The 10-year yield index closed at 5.244 percent, up 1.3 basis points from Thursday's 5.231 percent. The 5-year yield index closed at 5.021 percent, up 3.0 basis points. The 30-year yield index closed at 5.600 percent, down 0.6 basis points. The 3-month yield index closed at 4.057 percent, up 1.4 basis points. The front end led the backup. The long end did not. There is no Sunday yield close.
Brent futures settled Friday at 104.72 dollars, up 44 cents, or 0.42 percent, from Thursday's 104.28 dollar settlement. WTI settled at 91.85 dollars, up 36 cents, or 0.39 percent, from Thursday's 91.49 dollars. Those are the last settlements. The Riyadh attack came after them. Do not mark crude up on a Saturday headline.
GLD closed at 384.58 dollars, up 1.57 percent from Thursday's 378.62 dollars. This note does not call a gold futures settlement. It does not call Friday's rise a flight.
The dollar index closed at 102.21, up 0.07 percent from Thursday's 102.14. That is not a squeeze, and it is not a collapse.
Riyadh Airport Was Hit. Twelve Dead. No New Oil Close.Signal. The new fact is Saturday's attack. It is not in Friday's settlement.
Yemen's Houthis hit King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday. Saudi aviation authorities said at least 12 people were killed and at least 309 were wounded. The dead included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshis, and one person each from the United States, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan, and Egypt (Al Jazeera, 10 Oct, citing the Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation). The Guardian reported more than 300 wounded and the same death toll. Use 12 dead and at least 309 wounded. Do not round the wounded count down to a slogan.
This was the third attack on that airport this week. A Thursday attack killed at least three people (Al Jazeera, 10 Oct). Do not add Thursday's three to Saturday's 12 and call it one event.
Operations were suspended while damage was assessed. The Houthis said they had shut the airport and told airliners to avoid Saudi airspace, except over Mecca and Medina. That is a claim. The authority's line is a temporary suspension. This note does not call a Sunday reopen, and it does not call a lasting closure.
A separate projectile fell near King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. The Saudi-led coalition confirmed that. It is not a second death toll.
President Trump said he was evaluating whether the United States should join Saudi strikes on the Houthis. "We may. We're going to look at it." He said a decision would come quickly, and that the attack was a terrible thing (Guardian and Al Jazeera, 10 Oct). Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the attacks reprehensible and said they must stop. A US citizen died. That is why Washington is looking. "We may" is not an order. It is not a new Iran strike. It is not a ceasefire either.
Macro Impact. The attack landed after Friday's oil settlement. The Friday Brent settle of 104.72 dollars does not include it. Monday is the first chance for crude to price it. Columbus Day can make that print thin. A thin print is not a full settlement.
The risk premium is already in the settle. A deadly civil airport strike can add a gap. It can also fade if Monday treats it as the war the market already owns. You do not know which until the print. Joining a Yemen fight is not the same as restarting strikes on Iran. Do not merge the two.
Positioning. Hold the core energy sleeve (USO, XOM, CVX). Do not add it because 12 people died. Do not sell it because there is no new settle. USO rose 0.4 percent on Friday, to 148.20 dollars. XOM rose 0.3 percent, to 168.94 dollars. CVX rose 0.2 percent, to 211.98 dollars. Those closes are from before the attack.
Do not add defense. ITA rose 0.9 percent on Friday, to 206.65 dollars. That was before Saturday. "We may" is not a fill. Stay light airlines (DAL, AAL). Delta closed flat on Friday, at 82.17 dollars. A Saudi airport strike is not a reason to short a US airline on a weekend, and it is not jet fuel back to normal.

Signal. Saturday's official count is lower than Friday's wire figure. It is still most of Gulf oil. It is not a new settlement.
The Marine Minerals Administration, as of 11:00 a.m. CDT Saturday, put Gulf oil shut-in at 1,402,692 barrels a day, or 68.76 percent of Gulf oil output. Gas shut-in was 1,229.2 million cubic feet a day, or 57.44 percent. Personnel were off 113 of 371 manned platforms, or 30.46 percent. Eight of 11 non-dynamically positioned rigs were evacuated. One of 17 dynamically positioned rigs had moved off location. The count used 31 company reports (Marine Minerals Administration, 10 Oct).
The prior note used a Friday wire figure of about 1.5 million barrels a day, nearly 72 percent, taken before landfall. This note does not average the two days. Use Saturday's official count. The shut-in eased. It did not end. The release has no damage count. Facilities are to be inspected. Undamaged ones can return after checks. Damaged ones take longer. There is no restart date.
Isaias weakened on Saturday to a post-tropical cyclone after Friday night's landfall near Destin as a Category 2 storm, with 105 mph winds (Guardian, 10 Oct). Early Saturday, more than 868,000 customers were without power in Florida, Alabama, and Georgia (PowerOutage.us, via the Guardian). That is an early Saturday count, not a Sunday count. The storm was expected to dissipate on Sunday. Rain of 4 to 8 inches was forecast, with local totals up to 15 inches possible. This note does not call a death toll.
Friday's diesel headline is still not a glut. This note does not repeat the tonnage. The last crude settlement was still up.
Macro Impact. A lower shut-in is why you do not add energy on the storm. A shut-in that is still 68.76 percent is why you do not sell it. Landfall was Friday night. The first oil print that can include both the storm and the airport attack is Monday. It is not in hand. An eastward path was already why this was not a full Gulf wipeout. Saturday does not reverse that. It also does not prove the pipes are back.
Positioning. Hold USO, XOM, and CVX. Do not add because the airport was hit. Do not sell because the shut-in fell from the Friday wire figure to 68.76 percent. Do not trade a Sunday screen as Friday's close. XLE fell 0.2 percent on Friday, to 65.08 dollars. Equities did not chase the Friday settle. They have not been asked about Saturday yet.

The Score Stayed Neutral. Do Not Buy the Bond.Signal. Saturday did not flip the regime. It also did not fund a bond buy. There was no cash session to fund one.
The score is 39, unchanged from Saturday's reading. Fiscal pressure is 66. Central bank pressure is 58. Flow pressure is 17. Narrative stress is 0. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for NEUTRAL runs from 30 to 44. This is inside the band, not on the line. It is not a flip.
The mix is the point. A 10-year yield index at 5.244 percent is still restrictive. Flow is not. The story line is not. That is why the composite is 39, not 66. A cheap VIX is not an all-clear into Wednesday's inflation print.
Friday's cash session is still the last one. The S&P rose 0.59 percent and still sits about 7 points under Tuesday's record. VIX closed at 14.84. TLT rose 0.1 percent on Friday, to 77.98 dollars. HYG rose 0.1 percent, to 77.23 dollars. LQD closed at 102.41 dollars, little changed. Credit did not crack. The long bond did not get a bid from Saturday's headlines, because the bond market was shut.
Macro Impact. A score of 39 means the CAUTION label stays off. It does not mean the constraint is gone. RISK-ON starts below 30. A hot CPI on Wednesday can put the prior yield high back in play. A cool CPI can extend the dip in yields from earlier in the week. Neither print is in hand. Monday is Columbus Day. The bond market is usually closed. You cannot express a duration view in cash bonds until Tuesday, and Tuesday is also the first bank results.
Positioning. Stay underweight long duration (TLT, IEF). Do not cover because TLT rose 0.1 percent on Friday. Do not add to the short because the 10-year index rose 1.3 basis points. That was noise. Hold cash and short bills over the long end. Keep financials small (XLF). XLF rose 0.9 percent on Friday, to 54.73 dollars. Bank results start Tuesday. That is not a reason to add duration into CPI.
Key Sources. Friday closes, this note. Bureau of Labor Statistics October schedule, https://www.bls.gov/schedule/2026/10_sched.htm
Signal. No new chip print arrived over the weekend. Friday's split is still the fact.
The semiconductor fund fell 0.6 percent on Friday, to 603.33 dollars. Nvidia fell 0.5 percent, to 229.28 dollars. AMD fell 2.0 percent, to 608.10 dollars. Micron fell 0.7 percent, to 1,029.00 dollars. Broadcom rose 0.4 percent, to 361.54 dollars. Microsoft rose 2.4 percent, to 535.07 dollars. Oracle rose 4.2 percent, to 141.40 dollars. The bounce was in a few software and platform names. It was not a chip bid.
Nvidia's following results are 17 Nov (Tue). That is outside this window. Nvidia already reported in August. Do not write this week as an earnings week for that name.
Macro Impact. A chip fund down 0.6 percent, with the Nasdaq up 0.6 percent and VIX at 14.84, is a split tape. It is not a crash, and it is not an invitation to buy Friday's dip. CPI is Wednesday. Bank results start Tuesday. The airport attack does not fix a chip tape. Chasing a 0.5 percent Nvidia dip into that window is how a 39 score becomes a higher score with the Nasdaq lower.
Positioning. Do not buy the Nasdaq dip. Do not short Nvidia because Friday was down 0.5 percent. That is not a crack in the business. Stay underweight high-beta semis (SMH). A starter in utilities is still the cleaner power expression. XLU rose 0.8 percent on Friday, to 41.41 dollars. Constellation rose 4.6 percent, to 298.07 dollars. Do not chase that bounce.
Key Sources. Friday closes, this note.
Signal. Saturday produced a victory headline and a denial. They cannot both be the trade. Neither one is Hormuz.
Forces allied with Yemen's recognized government claimed progress at the Bab al-Mandab strait. Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Yemen said the strait had been cleared of the Houthis. A Houthi spokesperson said the offensive was hit with missiles and artillery, with more than 22 armored vehicles destroyed. A spokesperson for the recognized government's forces said only half the area had been recaptured (Guardian, 10 Oct). Use the conflict. Do not pick the victory line.
The Houthis seized that strait about two weeks before Saturday and said no Saudi-linked commercial traffic would be allowed through. That prior claim is not cancelled by a disputed Saturday headline.
Bab al-Mandab is the Red Sea gate. It is not the Strait of Hormuz. This note has no new Hormuz settlement and no new Hormuz open. A Red Sea argument does not change Friday's Brent settle of 104.72 dollars.
There is no new inflation print. September CPI is 14 Oct (Wed), at 08:30 ET (Bureau of Labor Statistics). This note has no new rate odds. October still looks like a skip on the last read. A cut is not the base case here. CPI is the next print that can change that.
Macro Impact. A cleared Bab al-Mandab would matter for Red Sea traffic. A half-cleared strait, denied by the other side, is not a clearance. Trading the ambassador's line as an open route is how you sell a risk premium that is not yet gone. Hormuz is a separate constraint. This note does not mark it open, and it does not invent a new strike count for it.
A 550 billion yuan story from Friday is not repeated here. There is no new China print in this note. Do not add China into CPI on a stale quota.
Positioning. Do not sell energy on a strait-cleared headline. Do not buy a tanker bounce on it either. Do not add China (FXI, EEM). FXI rose 2.4 percent on Friday, to 34.24 dollars. That was before Saturday, and it is a US proxy, not a Shanghai close. Cash still does the job until Wednesday. Staples were flat on Friday. XLP closed at 83.43 dollars. They are not a substitute for cash into the print.

| Position | Weight | Rationale |
|---|---|---|
| Overweight | ||
| Crude / energy (USO, XOM, CVX) | +2% | Hold it. The last settle was up. The shut-in is still 68.76 percent. The airport is why you do not sell. The missing settle is why you do not add |
| Power / utilities (XLU) | +1% | Hold the starter. Do not chase Constellation. Own the power theme, not Friday's bounce |
| Cash / short bills | High | The 10-year index is 5.244 percent. CPI is Wednesday. A 39 score is not a bond buy |
| Underweight | ||
| Long duration (TLT, IEF) | −5% | The score did not flip. Monday is usually not a bond session. A Friday rise of 0.1 percent in TLT does not fund the long end |
| Semis / high-beta tech (SMH) | −2% | The chip fund fell 0.6 percent on Friday while the Nasdaq rose. Do not chase the dip. Do not short Nvidia |
| Small caps (IWM) | −2% | IWM rose 0.5 percent on Friday, to 278.94 dollars. One bounce does not fix the yield level |
| Airlines / transport (DAL, AAL) | −2% | A Saudi airport strike and a flat Delta close are not jet fuel back to normal. Do not add a weekend short |
| China cyclicals (FXI, EEM) | −2% | No new China print in this note. Do not add into CPI |
| Defense (ITA, LMT) | 0% | "We may" is not an order. Do not add defense on a Saturday headline |
| Gold (GLD) | 0% | Up 1.57 percent on Friday. No futures settlement. Not a new entry |
| Staples (XLP) | 0% | Flat on Friday. Cash still does the job into CPI |
Cash stays high. The hold at 39 says leave the crash urgency off. It does not say buy duration, sell energy, or buy Friday's chip split. Trade 39 as a 5.244 percent 10-year, a Brent settle of 104.72 dollars, a shut-in that is still 68.76 percent, and an airport attack that is not yet in a settlement.

Weekdays above match the calendar. September CPI, real earnings, producer prices, and import prices are from the Bureau of Labor Statistics October schedule. The policy dates are from the Federal Reserve calendar. Bank and company dates are the scheduled release dates, not a forecast. Nvidia already reported on 26 Aug. Do not treat November as this week.
| Variable | Score | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Fiscal Impulse | 66 | 10Y at 5.24% — moderately restrictive |
| CB Elasticity | 58 | 5Y at 4.97% — below neutral, Fed constrained by inflation above target |

| Composite | 39 | NEUTRAL |
Regime thresholds: <30 RISK-ON | 30-44 NEUTRAL | 45-60 CAUTION | ≥61 RISK-OFF
The scorecard registers NEUTRAL — VIX at 14.84, 10Y at 5.24%. Stress is moderate. A VIX spike or a 10Y jump would push toward CAUTION.
This is not a flip. Saturday's reading was 39 NEUTRAL. Sunday's reading is 39 NEUTRAL. The line for CAUTION is 45. The line for RISK-ON is 30. The line for RISK-OFF is 61. Higher score means more stress. The label did not move. Trade 39 as a pause, with the 10-year index at 5.244 percent, a Brent settle of 104.72 dollars, a Gulf shut-in still at 68.76 percent, and an airport attack that has no settlement yet.
Data through the 9 Oct 2026 US close. Sunday note. US cash markets are closed. The score uses Friday's close. It is not a Sunday close.
