Trump said no to Hormuz. The strait stays shut.
The 10 year is still 5.18 percent. Do not buy bonds.
China reopens Monday. It shuts on Thursday.Weekend edition. US cash, VIX and Treasuries are through the 25 Sep 2026 close. Markets are closed today. There is no new daily settle. Saturday's public no on Hormuz is not in Friday's prices.
NO FLIP. Still NEUTRAL. Composite 42, the same as Saturday. The line for CAUTION is 45. This is not an all-clear. Fiscal is still tight. The 10-year yield index closed Friday at 5.184 percent. The 30-year yield index closed at 5.504 percent. November Brent settled at 104.32 dollars. The S&P closed at 7,743.41. VIX closed at 14.87. The score did not ease today because nothing traded. What changed is the politics. The rejection is now in Trump's own words.

The S&P 500 closed Friday at 7,743.41, up 0.51 percent on the day. VIX closed at 14.87, down 5.1 percent from Thursday's 15.67. These are the last completed session. Do not use a weekend screen.
The 10-year yield index closed at 5.184 percent, up from 5.162 percent on Thursday. That is about 2 basis points. It prints as 5.18 percent. The 5-year yield index closed at 5.007 percent, down from 5.025 percent. That is about 2 basis points. It prints as 5.01 percent. The 30-year yield index closed at 5.504 percent, up from 5.461 percent. That is about 4 basis points. It prints as 5.50 percent.

The No Is Now Public. The Strait Is Still Shut.Signal. President Trump said on Saturday, outside the White House, that he rejected Iran's seven-day plan. "I rejected their deal," he told reporters (Reuters, New York Times, 26 Sep). The plan, sent through Qatar, would have reopened Hormuz and paused regional fighting within seven days if Washington lifted the naval blockade, eased oil sanctions, and released frozen assets (Al Jazeera, Reuters, 26 Sep). Iran did not drop the conditions. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said any reopening still depends on those conditions being met, and that only a negotiated solution ends the deadlock (Reuters, 26 Sep). A senior Iranian official again said Tehran will not bend on the nuclear file (Reuters, 25 Sep). The Wall Street Journal, cited by Reuters, reported that Trump told aides he expects bombing to resume after the midterms. Asked that question in public, he did not confirm it (New York Times, 26 Sep). Friday's prices do not include Saturday's answer.
Macro Impact. Saturday turned a leak into a public no. It is not a new bombing campaign. It is also not a reopening. Monday is the first cash session that can price the answer. Until ships move through Hormuz in size, do not treat Friday's oil drop as the end of the shock.
Positioning. Hold the core energy sleeve (USO, XOM, CVX). Do not sell Friday's dip into a closed market. Do not add before Monday's open shows whether the public no sticks in the price. Keep defense as the war hedge (ITA, LMT). Stay light airlines and trucking (DAL, AAL).

The 10-Year Is Still at a 2007 High. The Mortgage Print Confirmed It.Signal. No new Treasury close over the weekend. The 10-year yield index closed Friday at 5.184 percent. Tradeweb's Friday 3 p.m. close was 5.180 percent, the highest since 6 Jul 2007, and up 18.5 basis points on the week (Dow Jones, 25 Sep). The 30-year yield index closed at 5.504 percent. The 5-year eased to 5.007 percent. TLT closed at 79.32 dollars, down 0.1 percent on Friday. That is not a bounce. The average 30-year mortgage rate is 7.03 percent for the week ended 24 Sep, the first weekly average above 7 percent since 16 Jan 2025 (Freddie Mac, Associated Press, 24 Sep).
Macro Impact. A closed market is not a dip. The 10-year is still more restrictive than it was a week ago. A 7.03 percent mortgage is the rate shock in the housing market. A 14.87 VIX does not make a 5.50 percent long bond safe. The score staying at 42 does not make duration cheaper.
Positioning. Stay underweight long duration (TLT, IEF). Do not buy the quiet weekend. Hold cash and short bills over the long end. Keep financials small (XLF, JPM). A hike helps bank interest income. A 7.03 percent mortgage hurts housing and the bond book.
Key Sources. Dow Jones and Tradeweb 25 Sep; Freddie Mac and Associated Press 24 Sep; yield index closes 25 Sep.
Signal. The S&P 500 closed at 7,743.41, up 0.51 percent on Friday. VIX closed at 14.87, down 5.1 percent on Friday. November Brent settled at 104.32 dollars, down 2.1 percent on Friday. November WTI settled at 92.41 dollars, down 2.3 percent on Friday. The bounce came as oil fell on the Hormuz headlines (MarketWatch, Associated Press, 25 Sep). Those headlines were the offer. The answer came on Saturday. SMH rose 1.0 percent on Friday, to 606.56 dollars. Meta fell 3.3 percent on Friday, to 751.66 dollars. The spend worry did not get a weekend answer.
Macro Impact. Friday's stock gain and Friday's oil drop are the same trade. The public no is not in either price. If Monday reprices the rejection, Friday's stock gain is the part that was not real, and Friday's oil dip is the part that can reverse. A 14.87 VIX, with a live war and a 2007 high in the 10-year, is still cheap insurance. The score staying at NEUTRAL does not make the multiple safe.
Positioning. Do not buy the Friday bounce in high-beta semis (SMH, XLK). The chip gain on Friday is not the entry. Do not add Meta on Friday's drop. The spend has not been cut. Hold data centers only on a deeper dip (DLR, EQIX).
Key Sources. Associated Press and MarketWatch 25 Sep; closes 25 Sep.
Signal. No new labor print over the weekend. The committee hiked to a range of 3.75 to 4 percent on 16 Sep. Sixteen of 18 officials signaled at least one more hike this year (New York Times, 17 Sep). Nothing over the weekend walked that back. August JOLTS is Tuesday at 10:00 ET (Bureau of Labor Statistics). August personal income and outlays, and the third estimate of second-quarter GDP, are Wednesday at 08:30 ET (Bureau of Economic Analysis). September payrolls are Friday at 08:30 ET (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Micron is due to report on Wednesday. The next meeting is 27 to 28 Oct, six days before the 3 Nov midterms.
Macro Impact. A soft Wednesday and a soft Friday would not erase a 5.18 percent 10-year in one morning. A hot pair would harden the October debate, with the meeting sitting just before the midterms. This is not a weak-labor excuse to fade the long end. The path is still live until the data say otherwise.
Positioning. Do not fade the hike path. Prefer cash and quality over duration. Keep small caps light (IWM). Staples and quality stay the ballast (XLP, SPHQ).

China Gets One Session. Then It Shuts Again.Signal. Mainland China has been shut since Friday for the Mid-Autumn holiday. The Shanghai exchange reopens Monday 28 Sep. It shuts again from Thursday 1 Oct through Wednesday 7 Oct for National Day. It reopens Thursday 8 Oct (Shanghai Stock Exchange, 17 Sep). That is one cash session to price the Hormuz answer, then a week offline.
Macro Impact. A one-day reopen is not a trend. It is a gap risk. If Monday's oil move is large, China gets one session to react, then the position is stuck through 7 Oct. Do not read a Monday bounce as a new China bid.
Positioning. Stay underweight China cyclicals (FXI, EEM, FCX). Do not add on the reopen. The holiday is the position, not the entry.

Cash stays high into Wednesday's PCE and Friday's payrolls. Do not buy duration because the score is quiet. Do not sell energy because oil fell on Friday.

| Variable | Score | Interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Fiscal Impulse | 76 | 10Y at 5.18% — moderately restrictive |
| CB Elasticity | 58 | 5Y at 4.91% — below neutral, Fed constrained by inflation above target |
| Flow Pressure | 14 | VIX 14.9 — lowest reading in weeks, low fear despite Iran/oil |
| Narrative Coherence | 6 | SPY -0.3%/5d | QQQ-SPY breadth +14 |
| Composite | 42 | NEUTRAL |
Regime thresholds: <30 RISK-ON | 30-44 NEUTRAL | 45-60 CAUTION | ≥61 RISK-OFF
The scorecard registers NEUTRAL — VIX at 14.87, 10Y at 5.18%. Stress is moderate. A VIX spike or a 10Y jump would push toward CAUTION.
This is not a flip. Saturday was 42 NEUTRAL. Sunday is 42 NEUTRAL. Fiscal 76. Policy 58. Flow 14. Narrative 6. The numbers are Friday's close, carried through a closed weekend. They are not a new session. One noisy Monday can print CAUTION again. Trade 42 as a rates shock with a cheap VIX, a closed strait, and a public no the cash market has not seen.
Data through the 25 Sep 2026 US close. Weekend reading. Markets are closed.
