Instacart and Uber Eats have formed a partnership


Instacart and Uber Eats have formed a partnership to bring restaurant delivery to Instacart’s platform. This collaboration introduces a new “Restaurants” tab in the Instacart app, which is set to appear in the next few weeks. Through this tab, Instacart users in the U.S. can order food from restaurants, with deliveries handled by Uber Eats drivers.

This service enhancement is particularly advantageous for Instacart Plus members, who already enjoy free grocery deliveries on orders over $35. They will now also benefit from free restaurant delivery for orders exceeding $35. Non-Plus members, however, will incur Uber Eats delivery fees for restaurant orders.

Instacart will receive an affiliate fee for each order placed through this new service, although further financial details of the partnership remain undisclosed.

This move is part of a broader strategy by Instacart to expand its services. Statistics indicate that most Americans shop for groceries at least once a week, and over a third also order takeout or delivery with similar frequency. By adding restaurant delivery, Instacart aims to cater to this substantial demand.

This partnership is expected to strengthen Instacart’s position in the competitive U.S. grocery delivery market, where it currently holds about 25% market share, trailing behind Walmart. It also potentially increases customer traffic for Uber Eats’ restaurant partners, particularly in suburban areas where Instacart has a strong presence.

Additionally, Uber Eats is enhancing its own app with new AI-powered features, including a chatbot and expanded payment options, further enriching the customer experience across both platforms.
